Hi, I use up about one gallon of gas each month, so only fill up about every eighth month or so. So I would like to try to have as little gas in the tank at fill-up time as possible. Is it a smooth transition to run out of gas in HV mode? Will the car automatically transition to EV mode? Has anyone had positive or negative experiences doing so?
Safe ways to run out of gas !?

Thanks David. Somehow when I put the question in the search box it didn't pull down your reference.
Just to be explicit, I think you are confirming that if I have charge and I am running in HV and I run out of gas, the system will seamlessly switch the mode to EV, no longer displaying the HV icon.

It switched to EV - there were a variety of orange warnings flashing across the driver's display; but, there were no issues with the car running in EV mode. Once I put gas in it, and powered it back on, all was fine, and there were no warning on the driver's display.
