Robust portable NEMA 10-30 EVSE

I’m looking for something similar to the Grizzl-E Mini, except with a 10-30 plug. Any suggestions?

NEMA 10 sounds unsafe, especially as a way to charge EVs since it relies on grounding of the frame: As commonly used, 10-30 and 10-50 plugs required the frame of the appliance to be indirectly grounded via a strap connecting to the neutral blade.

I can't imagine grounding an EV sitting on rubber tires is really going to work.

As for a portable EVSE with multiple connector types, I have the J+ Booster 2 and it's become my daily charging option for my SE since I added a second EV (F-150 Lightning) to my home fleet. It has a large assortment of NEMA adapters. The company sells their refurbished EVSEs via eBay and I got mine for quite a big discount.
 
I realize there are some safety perceptions concerning NEMA 10, but that fact is that thousands of American homes (probably millions) have NEMA 10 outlets and devices. I don’t recall ever reading about a NEMA 10 fire or electrocution.

Is this a real risk, or simply a risk created by the ‘improved’ electrical code?

I’m not certified electrician but do not have headaches all EVs should be hard wired without any extensions or plug in as experiencing my plug in 7 years later that’s what happened IMG_2894.webp NEMA 14-50 240 Volts with 40 amps double breaker

Thats a poorly designed outlet problem, or say an outlet designed for a low duty cycle and few insertion type household use (dryer welder). Its a common problem with the Leviton dryer/welder type outlets you find all over. There have been fires.

A little more expensive, harder to find on the store shelf, so called HD outlets don't have that problem. Its been talked about here now and then I think.

I replaced my original Leviton with an HD type and have seen no issues. The Leviton looked pristine too, but I rarely unplug the charger.
 
I’ve been using my budget priced Megear level 2 portable EVSE for the past year now. Max draw is only 16 amps, which is sufficient to charge the SE overnight if nearly depleted. Heat generated is minimal, so plug connections have never felt hot. I’m going to continue considering this a safe and prudent charging strategy until something changes.

This is interesting. I do like the automatic switching. However, it does not appear to offer any compensation for the lack of a dedicated ground. I use a dumb splitter currently, so my laundress had to be specially trained.
