Power output in different modes ?

Just wondering if anyone knows.

Does the different drive modes (ECON and sport ) affect the max power output under EV mode ? Or does it just change when the ICE kicks in ?

I love driving in ECON only because I can press the throttle all the way down without worrying ICE kicking up ( as long as I dont click it)
 
Pretty sure it's the difference of the current output from the battery, and once you exceed the threshold then the ICE kicks in to supply the additional current.

There is no reason to limit the power on econ mode, ICE will still start when you step on it anyway

Agreed. I'm a bit blown away by Sport mode when I play with it because I'm used to Econ almost all of the time. But in Sport mode it's way too easy for me to push a bit too hard on the accelerator and have the ICE come on. Not good.
 
When the power needle is at any particular place on the arc, the car is using the same power regardless of what mode it's in. What changes is how little pressure on the accelerator in Sport as opposed to Normal (which takes less than Econ).
 
Same power available. Just remaps the pedal and may temporarily reduce ac, but on 90+ days I have not noticed any meaningful reduction of ac.

I have not try sport mode yet in my car so when you say it 'remaps the pedal', let's say in ECON, ICE kick in at 80% travel to the bottom of the gas padal, in Normal, ICE kick it at 70% and in Sport it kick it at 60% (example only unless someone actually know when it kick in). Does the 'detent' changes also so you know/feel when the ICE will kick in? Does the power meter change/shift so the 'grey' bar occupy more segments compare to ECON?

Another question I have is when you run out of battery, does the detent shift so you feel it sooner/higher compare to when full battery?

I am trying to find out if the padel and the power meter changes the feel/visual and you know when the ICE will come on depending on the mode or the SOC, thanks
 
I haven't seen it mentioned before so I thought I'd add that the little "wings" on the sides of the dashboard change colour based on mode /driving. If they are green, you're driving economically, if they are white you're driving normally and if you go into Sport mode they change to red. :)

Unfortunately, the detent is mechanically anchored in place and does not change according to mode. It would be nice if it always represented the accelerator position where the ICE would kick in, but that works only in ECON Mode. Here is the chart Honda provide that shows where the ICE kicks in in the different modes (no precise percentages, however):

The only reason I am driving in econ is because of the click.

In normal/sport, I often press too hard and the ICE will kick on.

In ECON, I can technically full throttle until I feel the resistance. So I can easily full throttle in EV mode.

I hoped that the ECON mode is just a remap of the throttle position so that if I full throttle it in EV, the power output is the same as if I throttle it just enough so that ICE don't kick in.

I don't understand how it is not good. If I'm in Sport mode, I'm expecting the ICE to kick in readily to supplement for more power, and that's what Sport mode is about.

I just want to drive in EV as much as possible. I bought the car for its electric range. Our days normally consist of 30-40 miles or more, with a mid day charge, and we can drive for free off our roof solar. Still it's great to have the ICE available in Econ mode by pushing the accelerator past the detent. I've used it a few times when I'm in a spot where I want to avoid an accident by getting out of the way.

It's very rare for the ICE to come on if we are in Econ mode. So when I play around and select sport the extra power feels great but way too often the ICE comes on. So I switch back to Econ.
 
The power available in any mode is the same, although in Econ you have to push past the detent and start the engine to get max acceleration. To get sporty acceleration in Econ just push the pedal to the detent.
 
In addition to the comments on the pedal responsiveness, pedal detent and AC, I expect Honda copied another feature from other models:

  • Throttle Response- In order to reduce fuel consumption during acceleration, the throttle slows the rate at which your vehicle increases in speed. It does not affect acceleration from very high or very low speeds, confining its impact to the middle range.
Basically a softer acceleration response at mid-speeds. And possibly a softer acceleration with the cruise control ´resume´.

I drive in Sport with Max reg all the time around town and the ICE never comes on because I never really go that fast. I find it so much more enjoyable for local traffic.
