Potential for under-hood (frunk) storage space?

Well, I thought I had an idea that would work, but I was wrong. If you installed the compact spare and tool kit in its proper place, then you have a piece of styrofoam floating around your garage or the back of your car, officially called a "mobility kit case." I thought that it might fit under the hood and serve as a lean mean poor man's frunk, but the hood will not close properly with it in there, in any orientation, without modification. So a purpose built piece, similar to the one in the video above, is probably indicated if you want to go down this path. Until that materializes, I am going to keep track of the temps in the engine bay and see how hot it gets in there, just so we know. It would be nice to know whether Kia considers the plastic cover that must be removed to be functional or merely aesthetic...

I got an email from the folks at http://www.frunk.at that the release of the frunk for the Niro EV is imminent. It's not cheap, but it is pretty interesting. Although the site does not specify, they are charging 43 Euros to ship to the US.

Unless you order the spare tire kit, there is quite a bit of space under the cargo floor (both foam layers are removable, you could use leave one to help store the tire patch kit and charger but set the laptop case in there as well).
If you have driven long enough to have a blowout, you will get a spare. If you haven't had a blowout yet, you will...

The Frunk has arrived! No one is going to give any awards for expediency - I ordered it on Nov 6, it shipped on Nov 18, and it finally arrived on Dec 17 - today!

I've included a couple of pictures. It installs very quickly/easily, as expected. Lined up perfectly with the mounting points. In the picture, I have my L1/2 portable charger with adapters, a roadside hazard kit and a first-aid kit all stored in the frunk with a little room to spare (but just a little).

Now, even with a spare tire inside the under-floor storage in the back, I still have some spare room to store some other things in the top foam section that I don't want seen. It's a bit pricey, but seems to fit as advertised. Just don't be in a hurry when you order it.
