Plastic EV cover purpose?

Does the plastic cover under hood with "EV" on it serve any purpose other than cosmetic? Despite vents I assume it makes the charger beneath it a little warmer when charging and adds a little bit of weight. I see some people have replaced it with a storage container ("frunk").

I got one of those aftermarket "frunks", and it's perfect for my charging cable, adapter, and portable jump starter.

The useless plastic cover is retired somewhere in my garage.
