Maybe 3 or 4 times -- most recently a couple days ago -- I've had a very strange experience when shutting off my Kona. I press to shut it off, and it appears to shut off -- at least, the dashboard lights go out -- but I don't hear the little chime sound the car makes when shutting down. Sure enough, when I step out of the car it starts beeping at me that I have to shut if off, even though I look at the dashboard indicates it's already off. It always seems to work normally on the second try. The occurrences of this are rare -- maybe once every 3 or 4 months -- and seemingly random. Has anyone else experienced this?

Is this the same as my situation? - I switch off the car, climb out (in the dark), close the door and see the transmission buttons are still lit? Tonight I walked outside later and noticed the dash backlight was still on but no graphics. In both cases an unlock and relock with the remote rectified everything.

Sounds slightly different. Yours didn't beep at you when you got out of it, as if you'd left it turned on, right?

Perhaps you have 'welcome mirrors' enabled in the settings? Or, you're seeing the car when the 12V battery is being charged? Frankly, if you're 12V battery is not dying it's bound to be normal behaviour.

No. No beep. I don't have the 'welcome mirrors" feature in the menu. What is that?

I noticed the car charging the 12V battery twice last night while I worked in the garage. It was about four hours after I parked it. I read the car may charge the battery starting at about 4hrs. I think what I observed the 12V battery circuit do was top off the 12V and then stop for a few minutes to check the battery voltage and then continue charging. No idea how long it charged. Hoping that this doesn't indicate the 12V isn't aging out. It is a 3 year old car with a replacement 12V battery that is of course less than 3 years old now.

I have no clue what "welcome mirrors" are. :)

It must be a feature like headlight elevation adjustment that the rest of the world gets on their Kona and that USDM Konas do not.

The mirrors fold in close to the door when the car is locked. Helpful I'm sure. Just like the ability to tilt the headlights down when carrying people in the backseat.

For those with electrically-folding mirrors they unfold momentarily every time the key fob is within RFID range, about 1m from the car perimeter. Seems like a great way to drain the 12V battery with no practical benefit.
