Hello,
I'm experiencing a bit of a conundrum. We're contemplating a second car in addition to our 2017 Chevy Volt and it's basically down to the Outlander PHEV or the Pacifica e-Hybrid. Basically, this will be our travel/backup car while the Volt will continue to be our commuter/primary car. We make frequent trips to visit family in the LA area (we're in Sacramento) on top of occasional trips to the Tahoe area and coastal areas. We've been using the Volt primarily but renting something bigger (usually a Toyota Highlander) if we think the additional room will be necessary.
However, we've come to the conclusion that our need for a second car will only increase so we thought we'd bite the bullet and get one. I have set the condition that any second car we get have a plug. I was onboard with getting the Pacifica until Mitsubishi surprised us all with finally bringing the Outlander to North America. Now I find the AWD and lower cost compelling. The cargo capacity is comparable (with all seats up in the Pacifica) but the Pacifica clearly has greater passenger capacity, greater AER and better hybrid mode MPG. On the flip side, the Outlander has LED headlamps (vs halogen only on the Pacifica), AWD (as stated above), is lower cost (particularly with the 0 interest deals they have going now), and is, IMO at least, a more reliable brand.
Does anyone have any thoughts on which might be the better way to go? Any owners out there of either vehicle care to share their experiences?
Thanks!
