Was just watching the bike time trials and surprised to see the track vehicles following the riders were not BEVs. You'd think if anywhere they would want the air there to be as pure as possible for the athletes. And not to mention France wanting to be a leader in climate action (Paris Accord?).

There were Cadillac and Volvo EVs supporting some teams in the Tour de France.

I doubt the Olympics would force teams to change the support vehicles they've been using all season. I'd guess the companies providing the support vehicles also pay the teams to show off their vehicles and not every manufacturer has a suitable EV in their lineup, so forcing the teams to go electric (support vehicles, not bikes) would could pose a financial penalty. Perhaps the international governing organization, the Union Cycliste Internationale, could stipulate EVs in the future.

Speaking of motors in racing bikes, the IEEE has a recent article on how difficult it is to screen competition bicycles for hidden electric motors to prevent "motor doping."

Another recent IEEE article reports on a solar-powered drone that weighs less than a nickel! The electric motor for this drone is unlike anything I've ever seen--it's the cylindrical cage at the top, just below the rotor.

I just think it was a huge missed opportunity, bordering on hypocrisy given that it was in France. They had many, many years to prepare for this.
