Personally, I would argue both are reality, since it [the top photo] is not a render or Photoshop. Also, I'll bet they are very happy they didn't have this problem during the reveal and all those rides.

The top picture is located pretty close to the bottom pictures.
It's all in good humor. It's a prototype, breakdowns are expected.
I just did a road trip following the supercharger route on my Lexus RX 350 which has only 15 gallon tank. The range is close to s100D. We stop and pretend charged just like a Tesla. The reality of road tripping with the Tesla was no fun. The wife killed the idea of getting a model 3.
The superchargers were pretty much empty. Kettleman supercharger was cool with all those chargers and code to use the bathroom.
