Hi , my wife just started an new Facebook group about Mini Cooper SE
Please surprise her and become a member.
Thanks a lot and keep on motoring.

I'm not on Facebook, but I'm astounded there wasn't a MINI Cooper SE group before now.

As forum members who probably groan every time they see yet another "insightman" post know, I'm addicted to this InsideEVs SE forum, so I don't need another one.

I don't do Facebook anymore, got tired of the spam and privacy issues. There were a number of mini groups at the time, nice for socializing and as a news feed. Group administrators found they have to make the groups private or they gets cluttered with nonsense pretty quick. Private groups (public groups with a bouncer at the door) work better. Open to everyone with a Facebook account but you need permission to enter.

I much prefer these open forums for sharing technical and repair info.

It might be just me, but isn’t it a bit rude for a “new member” to advertise a competitive forum, trying to steal members away? Not good form ol’ chap.

joined and post and got info here since April , so not quite new.
Admin if this not approved please delete, thanks

I founded/ran a large international forum for an outdoor sport for 15 years and FB groups are nice and immediate, but not a good replacement for a traditional forum like this one.

You get the same questions over and over and over because FB users want an instant answer from someone and the search function is in different places depending on the type of group you're in and not super obvious.

The answer you get may not be accurate either. With a forum, there is history there where people will correct answers and you can pretty quickly find the the 'real' answer it.

Not being able to sticky threads is a major drawback to FB groups also.

One thing I've never understood is why someone will create a new FB group that is just a bit more specific than an existing one that's super popular. It has to be something like that person just wants to be in charge or have the attention or whatever because it's not in the best interest of the community as a whole to splinter off microgroups all the time. That just dilutes the knowledgebase.

I welcome any social media 'gatherings' in honor of our awesome Mini SEs. I hope your wife's group gets good membership.

Aside: I admin a number of FB groups, and FB has only made using the groups more frustrating over the years. :-) But they still serve a good purpose since many people only use FB to get information and don't frequent awesome forums like this one. On my YouTube channel I constantly push people to this forum to find answers about the SE.

That's the rub, not everyone in the world is willing to have a Facebook account. And Meta (Facebook) is increasingly blocking non-account holders from even viewing pages. My local MINI user club (Minnesota United MINIs) has been swallowed by Facebook :(. I feel sorry for all the businesses that rely on Facebook for their web presence.

All that said, the internet is a big place so hopefully this new group will be successful.

A month or two back I stopped using FB except to check the few active groups I have left. (Fantasy football is a big one that is about to get going again!)
