The reviewer is just too used to paddles being used to shift the transmission to fully appreciate the Clarity's regen paddle implementation. Of course, he's right on when saying that the regen selection should stick in ECON Mode (and the hidden NORMAL Mode) just like it does in SPORT Mode.
His only fact-check moment came when he said that the battery's "in the rear." True, the battery is to the rear of the front edge of the front seats, but he implied it's at the rear of the car, instead of under the seats and rear-seat floor. The Clarity PHEV's battery arrangement is much more elegant than the interior-raising slab of batteries found in other cars with sizable batteries.
