Mini Assembly Video

Just stumbled onto this video of the Mini assembly factory tour. I suspect many of you may have already seen this. I spent my career in high speed food packaging and am always amazed at the engineering to build the machines that build the machine. My take away from this video is how much slower everything moves compared to the new Tesla Giga factory lines. Does anyone know what the run rate of the Oxford plant is?

There was a 3 part "live" broadcast from there a few years ago with James May from Top Gear and a couple of other presenters. They said each step in the process is 67 seconds iirc, and that they produce 800 cars per day over 2 shifts. Something like that...
The video is on Amazon Prime Video iirc...

I just booked a cruise out of Southampton (the port from which our MINIs leave England.)
In poking around the web and Apple Maps for something interesting to do for a few days pre or post-cruise, I realized the Oxford MINI plant is quite close by and I discovered MINI had stopped doing tours of the plant for employee and public safety due to covid.
Given the lead time before September, I thought I should write an email telling them a little of my family’s history with MINIs and asking if I could get a tour.
To my surprise, I received a reply minutes after I sent the email!.
Apparently, they expect to resume factory tours very soon and are already planning the content. With any luck, a tour of Plant Oxford will be in our first travel plans in over 2 years.

Too bad you cant do what my dad did in 59. The MG public relations folks put him and my mom up for the night, and the next morning he followed his MGA down the end of the assembly line.
