2019 Kona EV Ultimate - 5000 miles on odometer

Econo mode, “0” regen, Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW) - on, Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) - on, Adaptive Cruise Control - on

Most of the driving was during daylight hours so not much use of the headlights except in a few rain storms. Driving at posted speed limit +/- depending on conditions.

2 adults (about 310 lbs.) and approximately 300 lbs. of cargo inside.

Left St Pete, FL: 100% SOC, tire pressure 43psi all around, OAT 72F, wind SE @ 10mph, clear skies.

Arrived at Gainesville, FL: 40% SOC, tire pressure 46psi all around, OAT 70F, wind SE @ 15mph, clear skies.

145 miles, average speed 63 mph, 3.8 miles/KW, Charge time 37 minutes, added 32KW

I was going to charge to 70% but when I plugged in the screen on the EA station showed $1.00 session fee and .58/ minute. It should have shown no session fee and .35/minute with the Hyundai Select Plan.

I called EA and confirmed I was on the “Hyundai Select Plan” and they put me on hold to figure it out. After about a 1 minute hold they got it straightened out and they told me to keep charging and I would not be billed for the session. Charged to 81% for free! No stats from EA as to charge rate, time, and energy delivered, like it never happened. Estimated cost if I had to pay, about $10.00

Left Gainesville, FL 81% SOC, tire pressure 46psi all around, OAT 70F, wind SE @ 15mph, clear skies.

Arrived at Brunswick, GA: 29% SOC, tire pressure 45psi all around, OAT 65F, wind SE @ 15-20mph, clear skies.

Switched to a different station at same location, thought the max charging rate would go up, it did a little. I think the Battery Management System turned on the A/C to cool the HV battery pack.

Stopped at Lee Ford in Wilson, NC for a free Level 2 charge, 46% to 51% just for fun. Talked to a salesperson (from about 10 feet away, social distance +) about how the virus is hurting sales and we both hope things will get better soon. He was not interested in anything to do with BEV’s.

Stayed in Wilson overnight.

SUMMARY:

Total miles: 1228

Total driving time including stops to charge: 24h 30m

7 stops to charge at Electrify America DC Fast Chargers added about 5 hours to the trip which we found to be much more relaxing. Waiting for the car to charge we would walk around and go to stores.

Cost using Electrify America DC Fast Chargers: $80.71, not including the first stop in Gainesville, FL which was free.

Interesting summary. Thanks for posting those DETAILS. I have yet to do any long trips requiring external charging stations..

What sort of accomodation did you find in Wilson, and what was your
evaluation of its safety?

Oh, and if you go to your trip summary screen, what was the mi/kWh
for the legs? [assuming the car counted it as two long ones] It's a little
hard to pull that out of your figures..

(Off topic but you asked).
Stayed over night at a Microtel hotel just off of I-95 in Wilson, NC.
Called them to find out if they were opened and what safety measures they were using to protect guests and their staff. It meet my requirements and we were pleased with the accommodations.
Front desk wore masks and had chairs blocking the counter to keep guest back 6' or more.
Room was spotless, and we sprayed everything ourselves with a bleach mixture.
Beds were very clean, sheets looked new and smelled like bleach (not from us, ha).
They were fully booked! $60 total for the night on a Wednesday.

Yes the mi/kWh was for each leg. I based my charge station stops on 4.0 mi/kWh with plenty of reserve just in case.
