Limited coverage without the network

I can confirm that the SE relies heavily on the built-in SIM. We went on a road trip to a remote site with no network coverage:

1. Near to the destination, the SE notified me that I have entered a limited coverage area.

2. The site had WiFi access using cabled internet, so I used that to check the SOC and mileage of the car, I only got the SOC and the state of the car since the last DC charge because the SE had no connection to the network; I instead had to fire up the SE to get the current SOC.

I instead had to fire up the SE...
That familiar turn-of-phrase seems inappropriate when referring to a vehicle sitting atop a large (well, sort-of large) lithium-ion battery. However, I admit "I instead had to turn on the SE..." would a pretty dull way to describe what you did.

Did your SE notify you when you had returned to civilization?

Ha ha, thought about that, I reckon “firing it up” is better with the “toggle” switches.

We are still in the remote site and I am still using the WiFi, will update on Tue when we go back to civilisation.

Hey, good thing I am now charging the SE, the owner has let me plug into her power point.

I had this problem on a trip last weekend. I was alarmed because my remote site had a charger but I didn’t think it was working because the app wasn’t updating.

I found that the thing to look for in the app is the time next to “updated from vehicle”. If that’s a while ago then there’s no signal.

At the time my iPhone on T-Mobile had plenty of signal, so I was trying to figure out what network the SE is using. Couldn’t find that in the manual. I wonder if it was a persistent problem for someone if the SIM could be swapped.

I never saw any alert that I was entering a limited coverage area though, maybe I just missed it.

I have only seen the "limited coverage area" notification when using the built-in nav at a place where the MINI doesn't have good map data coverage, like in a small rural town or places that have been built up more recently than the map provider has surveyed.

My suggestion is "power up". Or maybe something from Sci-Fi, like from Star Trek when Picard would say, "engage".

I’m wondering how it’s going to be in the mountains. There are many places we go without cell phone coverage.

Update:

It was the Nav that told me I now have limited coverage.

Without mobile network coverage I cannot still see the state of the SE. I woke up this morning and can confirm that the SOC is 100%, but the SE is still reporting 95% which was the SOC when I completed the DC charge yesterday.

An update, we are now back to civilisation, and can confirm that the SE did not notify me that I have regain “normal” network coverage.

I did noticed that the trip was not recorded in the Tronity app nor the charging session I did at the owners house was recorded by the MINI app.
