Kona 2024 and V2L

If this has been posted, my apologies, I did try to find it. Each of my daughters bought a 2024 Kona Electric, and supposedly it has V2L ability, it says it in the manual. The manual also shows a V2L menu item that is not in the menu. My experiment with two V2L adapters didn't work, has anyone been successful with this?

What country are you in?

The reason I ask is that different markets have different features and functionality. In Canada, Hyundai chose to omit V2L and a few other features available in other markets.

You are correct, but one daughter has the Limited, no different. There is a menu referenced in the manual that is not there on the screen.
I guess it has to be a software issue. Is there any way to get to Hyundai?

I don't think you will get the screen in the manual. However, try this:
1. Move to home screen
2. Select Electric Vehicle (leaf looking)
3. At the bottom of the Electric Vehicle screen, there is a row of selection symbols. Select the symbol that looks like a plug.
4. You will go to a screen that allows you to select the V2L battery discharge limit. Set as low as 20% as you wish.
I believe this will now enable you to use Kona EV's V2L function.

Thanks for your reply.
I see that location referred to in the manual, it is not on the 2024 Kona Limited. I have seen in in an Ioniq, but not there on the Kona screen. I'll get her to send me a video.

I'm a bit confused. I have a 2024 KONA EV Limited and I live in Kingwood, Texas. I also went through the steps above and then connected the adapter to the charge port and charged my electric bike. Should be the same as on your daughter's car. Best of luck.

That's good information, have you perhaps had a software update since you purchased it? I'm used to over the air updates, but Hyundai is not doing that are they? I suspect your software is updated, especially if you've been in for service.

No software update. I agree with you. You won't see the screen in the manual. But if you step through the steps above you can "set" your lower main battery limit.
NOTE: On step 3, after you select the "plug" symbol, you will be directed to screen where you can select the ELECTRICITY USE SETTING" Once set, that all you need to do.
It's possible that your actual V2L battery use setting is higher than your actual charge in the car. If this is the case, your KONA EV will not allow use of V2L. So you should set a fairly low Electricity Use Setting that V2L is allowed to drain the battery to in order to ensure your battery is above lower limit you set. Have you tried to set the V2L battery limit? I hope I haven't confused you. Maybe someone else can provide a better procedure. Again, best of luck.

I stand full square behind you now! You are correct. You are missing the menu item ELECTRICITY USE SETTINGS. I think its time to visit/call the dealer service dept. They should install any update necessary to get V2L option available to your daughter. Your daughter paid to have the V2L available.

Hi. Just found your post after realizing that my 2024 Kona EV Limited (US) is also missing the V2L option. My setup screen looks the same as yours in your video.

Were you able to get the car updated to display this option?

The third bullet at the top of this 2023 Hyundai press release, "2024 Hyundai Kona Overview for the U.S. Market," reads:
  • Kona Electric Offers Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) Capability...
The press release doesn't suggest only certain trim levels have V2L capability, but includes this requirement and caution:
Available exterior Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) charging requires separate purchase of an exterior V2L accessory. V2L two-way charging will deplete battery and become inoperable once battery discharge limit reaches 20%.

I bought my 2024 Hyundai Kona SEL Electric in January 2024 in California. When the menus didn't show the V2L settings, I concluded this option is not available on the 2024 Kona SEL trim. Recently, a friend of mine leased a 2025 IONIQ 5 SEL which according to the sticker is not equipped with V2L, but to my surprise, he said after buying the charge port V2L adapter online, he is able to power ac loads from his 2025 IONIQ 5 SEL using the adapter ! I realize the KONA and the IONIQ5 are different, perhaps Hyundai includes the hardware on the IONIQ 5 SEL but not on the KONA SEL ? Still, I'm tempted to try perhaps borrowing a Hyundai V2L adapter to try it on my 2024 KONA SEL to see if it works before ordering an adapter. Has anyone else tried this ?

I finally took the opportunity to try to use a V2L Adapter on my 2024 Hyundai Kona SEL. I borrowed the Adapter from a friend who has one that was included with his leased 2024 Kia EV6. Following the same steps my friend uses to activate the V2L adapter on his Kia, I tried it on my Kona and it DID NOT work. There is no 'click' and No LED comes ON when pressing the button on the V2L adapter and no AC power at the outlet. Oh Well... :(

I traded in my 2024 Kona EV Limited for a 2025 Ioniq 5 SEL two weeks ago to take advantage of the now obsolete federal EV tax credit. Both vehicles were/are leased. I can confirm that the 2025 Ioniq 5 comes with NACS to J1772 and CCS adapters, but does not come with a V2L adapter. Apparently all Ioniq 5 trims support V2L because they are all based on the same E-GMP architecture and the V2L feature is dependent on the ICCU.

“All vehicles based on the E-GMP platform support V2L using an external adapter. This includes all trims of the IONIQ 5/6, Kia EV6/9, and the Genesis GV60. However, only specific trims (Ioniq 5 Limited) include a built-in V2L outlet inside.”
