If two people are in the Mini, and the one having the Key Fob leaves the car while the remaining person drives away, will there be a message warning the driver there is no key fob before the driver turns the car off?
I’m not following the story line. Why would the passenger have the key fob?
Scenario: I usually have my key fob in my pocket, but I changed pants without moving the fob. My wife and I get into our SE and it starts because she's carrying her fob in her purse.I’m not following the story line. Why would the passenger have the key fob?
In any case, the SE will honk to get your attention and to warn you that the key fob has left the car.
I can ascertain that the opposite works just fine. If you leave the fob in the car, you can't lock the doors. Example: when you go to a Mini dealer for service, they need the fob to tell their system who the car is. They then leave the fob in the cup holder. You get in the car when they're done, and drive home. When you get out, the fob is still unnoticed in the cup holder. Voilà, you can't lock the doors.
The fob gets disabled only when its battery expires.Does the fob get disabled if you leave it in the car?
The SE always boops and pops up a warning if the “ignition is on” and the driver’s door is opened, however I'm uncertain what happens if the passenger gets out with the (only) fob while the driver remains in the their seat with the door closed.I'm fairly certain the ICE MINIs give a warning when the key leaves the car while it's on, but unlike the SE, the engine stays on when you open the door. Since the SE more or less turns off, maybe that's why there's no warning? Seems like an oversight.
My wife and I were both in the car. She had her key fob on her I didn't have mine with me. I dropped her off at home and went to the store, not thinking she had the key fob for the car. I stopped at the store and when I came back out to start the car I got the message of no key fob. I had to call her to bring the key fob to me. If this was to happen in my Corvette as I went to shut the car off a message would say 'no key fob' and asks if I want the car to restart without the key fob upon restarting?I’m not following the story line. Why would the passenger have the key fob?

It's easy to try that exact test, which I described above. I'll be interested to learn if anyone experiences different behavior than I did.The SE always boops and pops up a warning if the “ignition is on” and the driver’s door is opened, however I'm uncertain what happens if the passenger gets out with the (only) fob while the driver remains in the their seat with the door closed.
I leave my key fob on shelf 8” away and I can’t start a car and I’m lucky my wife don’t want to drive my beloved SE ?..She is Subaru girl.Scenario: I usually have my key fob in my pocket, but I changed pants without moving the fob. My wife and I get into our SE and it starts because she's carrying her fob in her purse.
I drive her to Tiny Lions, the kitten-adoption lounge where she volunteers. I turn off the SE while she's getting out, but I stay in the driver's seat. Voilà, it starts again even without a fob in the car. I drive to the local supermarket, get some groceries and return to my SE. When I press the Start/Stop button, the instrument panel tells me to hold the fob near the button. I don't have the fob. I'm screwed.
My SE didn't honk or give me any kind of warning the fob had left the building (er, SE). This full scenario didn't really happen--I tested it in my driveway a few minutes ago.
I try with open window holding a fob about a 1 ‘ out of a car try to start a car nothing happens but as I put a fob in a car just slightly behind a window a car start right away this is your answer.Weird. I just visited my wife’s aunt and uncle out in rural eastern Ontario (I haven’t seen them since The Before Times), and turned off the car, got out to unload the boot. When auntie wanted to sit in the driver’s seat not 15 seconds after I exited, I told her to action the yellow toggle, and it didn’t light anything up — other than a pop-up advising that the fob has left the car. I was standing right at the open driver’s door. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Carjackers don't know to drive manual-shift cars these days, but I'm sure they know how fobs work and would request the fob as part of the deal. At least when they park, the MINI Connected app will tell you where your SE is.Could this be a safety thing? Eg, if someone is going to carjack your car, you want them to get away whether they have the fob or not.
