Is an EV MINI really a MINI?

I have a friend with a classic mini. He drove my SE and loves it. Said it’s true to the spirit
I had a bunch of classic minis in the 80s and 90s.
The last of which would eat my SE at autocross. But that one wasn't standard...
Both the classic mini and the SE are very nimble cars. Either on a twisty road is going to embarrass most 'fast' cars. The SE is huge compared to a classic, but still manages to keep the zip that makes a classic such a hoot to drive quickly.

I've chatted with MINI enthusiasts and at least to my face, they say my Mia is no less of one than any other MINIs out there. This isn't my first MINI - I adored my first but even being EV vs 6spd this one is far more fun to drive

Teslas are everywhere in my neighborhood, and many who have been in both really love the MINI interior. I was put off by Tesla's. The Leaf is just meh (though I am looking for a used one for my kid). I've never liked Ford interiors as they are not suited to short petite people. The rest I will look at eventually.

There is a group of Mini enthusiasts in my area that get together on a regular basis, and I am (currently) the only SE owner. Most of them have questions about the SE, and most of them readily admit to worried (and unfounded) range anxiety. There are all kinds of Mini's represented - classic, Clubman, Countryman, Coopers, Cooper S's, Works, and modified.

143 posts on this silliness. Now for the serious question.

As a BMW and Mini owner, one who autocrosses his BMW with BMWCCA where there are Minis too.

IS A MINI A REALLY A BMW?
Is a Mini a BMW in disguise?
Is a BMW just an overstuffed Mini?
Is a bagel made outside of NY really a bagel?

MINIs are mini BMWs?

Bagels outside of NY in the right shops can be bagels but most are not.

Not sure what the debate is nor do I really care. My SE is my 8th Mini since 2002 - 2 Countryman's 1 Clubman and 4 hardtops - all with manual transmissions. I'm sure the purists do not consider the Countryman as a true Mini but I am not really worried about that they think. In my little corner of the world I set the rules and I consider my SE as a true Mini.

FWIW, the F60 is by far the smallest crossover that succeeds at looking rugged. I mean the Corolla Cross is FREAKIN YUGE by comparison! In my opinion, the Countryman quite perfectly defines the MINI character within its category.

This is my experience too. At the last rally, I had a great conversation with a couple who are seriously considering an SE. They were driving a JCW (hers) and he was looking for something for himself. Maybe next year another SE will join the group.
