Infotainment’s volume knob has gone “wonky”!

The volume knob on my infotainment system worked as expected for 10 months but now has gone wonky!
If I’m at volume level 5, and I rotate it clockwise to increase the level, it immediately reverts to level 0! If I rotate the knob very slowly (like 1 click every second) it will increase the volume faithfully.
A lousy work-around: I’ve remapped the volume to the right-hand “tuning” knob and the problem stays with the left knob.
Not surprisingly, the volume controller on the steering wheel always works as expected.
What’s going on with the left infotainment knob?

I’ve tried resetting the media centre. I’ve since reset the entire system to factory defaults. Still wonky. :(
Mind you, it’s only wonky when I rotate the knob. The “press to turn on” and “press to turn off” function still works fine.

Sound like you have found the best workaround by switching sides. BTW what year?...maybe slip that in to your details for future reference;)

Assuming it’s out of warranty, the control is possibly a mechanical encoder and could be cleaned or replaced if you remove the media unit.
