PHEV is Engine plus coolant based electric resistance heater (share core)
BEV is Heat pump plus PTC resistance heater (heats air directly)
This is why the EV range suffers significantly on the PHEV as soon as heater is used (as warm as 45F or so), however, I think the heater is more efficient than my Gen 1 Volt at getting heat into the interior. It gets warm very quickly and is much more comfortable on electric heat, which is surprising for a coolant heater, but people tell me the Bolt EV heater is similar coolant heater and much quicker than my Volt.
