At lunch, the owner and I had a chat about high mileage Teslas and I shared "Mine has 123,000 miles."

He asked about battery degradation and I shared, "About 9%, expected. So my 240 mile 2019 is down to 210-215."

Turns out his son has a Tesla and regularly commutes between Huntsville and Nashville, ~120 mi.

Apparently, this is only a third of their electric fleet. The cars I've seen have very high mileage for the year they where put in service. Perhaps these are Uber rentals.

I just checked. You can still rent a Tesla.

Does this mean that Hertz customers don't want to rent EVs? Or are the costs to own, operate and maintain these EVs makingt them less profitable?

The used Teslas that I've seen have plenty of miles on them. So I wouldn't say customers don't want to rent EVs.

Hertz overpaid for the Teslas, the resale value dropped, and I don't think leasing Teslas to Uber drivers panned out. One important rule in marketing is that you don't go whole hog when trying something new.

You can still rent a Tesla!
