Gear selector illumination

Now that the winter nights are encroaching on my driving time, I've observed that when the lights have been on, after you get out and lock up the car, various cabin and dashboard lights soon go out but the gear selectors are lit up for at least a minute after everything else is dark. Is there any practical reason for this? Or is the car just being pert?

Is there any practical reason for this? Or is the car just being pert?

Mine does the same (lights were on or off) so nothing abnormal (all 4 blue lights -RFDP center console with the P a yellow indicator as well) and a P and mileage on the dash for closer to 2 minutes. If you lock the doors with the FOB - they go out right away.
