Here we go again with GM- it is now trying to blame its union for 14000 layoffs and plant closures (per GM a plant may stay open if the union bends over some more- while GM did 25 billion in stock buy backs recently and wiggled to default/write off on 10 billion of its 50 billion in public bailout bankruptcy loans.) But now we here just like Ford, GM is abandoning cars in the US to increase gas guzzling and to run from Tesla. At at time when these laggards say cars are a lost cause Tesla is selling cars in the US at an increasing rate- tripling its sales of cars- so they are running from Tesla.

Some how that reminds me of hearing that gas is/was $9 a liter in the UK. That would be closer to the un-subsidized price so that the US pays a massively subsidized cost of 1/11 what the UK pays because the rest is all covered by tax payers in hidden subsidy- a bit like the hidden subsidies Trump was referencing on GM or a bit like the US's 'secret energy policy' or claims of $30 per pound in hidden US beef subsidies due to petrol costs- remember when the embargo hit school lunch programs in the US, the US switched to soy for the hamburgers in school lunches because it was cheaper. Think of think of this in the context of the idiotic claims that gas taxes caused the problems in France- no Macron cut taxes on the wealthy and likely on fossil fuel companies and then tried to charge more for fossil fuels to make it look like transitioning to green would cost people money instead of saving them massive amounts of money.

All of this reminds of a 60 Minutes program done on Tesla where they had this super obnoxious Australian politician on saying that while Australians were paying a rent payment per month just to keep the lights on (un-subsidized price of natural gas and coal) and were not able to keep the rent and heat on as a result to avoid things like eviction notices that despite their collective out cries for relief they would be given a generous $150 a year reduction and the important thing was to keep the gas and the coal in the mix.

The reality now is that at about any latitude battery back solar is about 1/6th the retail price of fossil fuel energy at its lowest cost anywhere and it will go to 1/1000th. So they are ripping off the Australian public furiously and this goes anywhere on Earth where more fossil fuel products are being perused where its is just pure fraud and conspiracy behind it that needs a law enforcement response. It is not about energy security or even about making use of in place but obsolete assets to extract remaining useful value out of them- no this is nothing but pure and massive loss to the public supported by noting but lies and crime.

The way to deal with petrol companies is to cut the underlying subsidy while capping their retail prices (in place) so that they are forced into bankruptcy and then you nationalize them and liquidate them. Very easy and you force the bill to the people who created the problems and were paid millions of times over in the past and you go about this with full transparency. Because that is not just the right thing that is what justice demands. As for the financial hostage taking- just void the derivatives contracts with government fiat then the losses accrue to the perpetrators.
