I remember the great cruise control debacle Ford had back in the 90's. There was a defective switch that would overheat and WHOOOOOOOM up in flames she went.
Those always arguing about electric cars catching fire are morons, they have just as much if not more wiring in ICE vehicles susceptible to catch fire at any time. Throw in a tank full of highly flammable petrol and well,... you get the idea.
