First waiting period, how long?

I ordered my Mini Cooper SE exactly one month ago. A few days later, my dealer told me that I had been "bumped up" by two weeks because "Mr. Yoder" cancelled his order. That's a theoretical six weeks since ordering and there are zero updates.

Is this typical?

What is the first update?

Is this the order of updates?
037 - Order is at BMW NA
087 - Production Week Assigned
097 - Order sent to factor
111 - Order Accepted at factory
112 - Order scheduled for Production
150 - Production Started
151 - Body Shop Started
152 - Paint Shop Started
153 - Assembly Started
155 - Production Completed
160 - Released to Distribution
182 - Released to Carrier
193 - Arrived at Port of Exit
194 - Selected for Shipment
195 - Shipped from Port of Exit
196 - Shipment Arrival

Thanks in advance for any and all feedback.

When I ordered mine back around the first of Nov, there was one that was almost ready to start that they just changed the color on and then it got here about the first week of Feb (It had just landed in Galveston when I called the dealer, and took a week to get from Galveston to OKC). So mine was 10-12 weeks.

What is an "order bank car"? My salesman sent me a reply "We do not have a production number at this point in time. Still an order bank car."

The dealers only have so many allocations per month on how many cars they can order. Until they have a spot they can allocate your order to, you are in their bank of orders. Timing varies from dealer to dealer, as the higher selling dealers get more allocations. Mine took a few weeks to get ordered.

Am I understanding that I could theoretically call around to other dealers in the hopes of finding one with an allocation now?

That's what some members of this forum did to get their SEs earlier.
Theoretically, but know there was a freeze on taking new orders in May, so there could still be a backlog. But you could definitely try and worst case scenario find out if one dealership has an allocation sooner than another.

that is what i did last year. One dealer had a cancellation. I could take that car if i wanted. the other dealer ordered a few for their stock. I chose one of those, put a deposit on it, and they had one less for their stock.

Don't bet on it. Many of the cars in inventory or almost in inventory are spoken for. Mine was in inventory a few days after I picked it up.

It took me about 3 weeks from the time I started looking until I had my Mini in the garage. That includes the week to ship it. I contacted 3 or 4 dealerships that showed they had inventory and quickly learned that Mini of Alexandria sucks. Mini of Ft. Myers on the other hand, was great!

Yep, you stand corrected. I forgot last august when i was looking I contacted a few non local dealers. Im still waiting for a few to respond. the other CO dealer had one on the boat in a color my wife wasnt thrilled with, and I didnt get the vibe they wanted to make a deal on the phone (I negotiated my GTO in two emails and one phone call, my Astra on one phone call, and my wifes 2 XC90s on a phone call, and the SE in one visit). Albuquerque got back. They had an Iconic in the blue/black my wife liked and were willing to deal. Then I watched the video of the father & son that drove one from Albuquerque to Boulder. The cost of a hotel, flight, etc. it was easier to get signature in paint at msrp 6 miles from home.
