The first comment I read was this:

"So what is the impact to the environment of several hundred lithium powered cars with large battery packs burning up, spewing toxic chemicals into the atmosphere, and then sinking into the ocean to continue to leach toxins into the ocean? What are the "lifecycle" impacts of this versus an ICE?"

This is a board with people buying/driving EVs, so I may be preaching to the choir. I don't know the answer, but I do know the answer to that comment/question. However, I do when it comes to oil spills like the Exxon Valdez, or oil rigs like the Deepwater Horizon, and gasoline or diesel emissions. So I ask the board, is it possible to have a conversation with someone who writes that? Like my mon said, never argue with a fool.

Well if you think about it the lithium would react with the water to produce the lithium hydroxide and hydrogen gas. Then the lithium hydroxide would combine with carbon dioxide to form lithium carbonate (ie. CO2 scrubber) and water. Therefore it would actually reduce greenhouse gas emissions!

Li + 2 H20 → LiOH + H2
2LiOH + CO2 → Li2CO3 + H2O

Then we're back at square one with lithium carbonate in the brine pools.
