Ev miles for phev

Hi all, I am proud owner of a new clarity I bought last week. This forum is full of enthusiasts who are equally passionate about their clarity.
My clarity is showing an ev milage of 54-57 miles on a full charge. This morning I compared the ev miles depletion with my trip meter and it came pretty close. While I welcome more ev milage any given day, I am wondering if it is specific to my car only.
 
You are not alone. When cold is not causing a drain due to resistance heating and defrosting, I and others posting here were regularly getting in the 60s. A lot depends on your driving style being moderate and your speeds being 70 or below. I’m still getting low 60s with just the a/c as the only non motive drain on the battery and with only one person in the car and with 75/25 city/ hwy driving with max speed limit of 60 mph.
If you don’t drive like Mario Andretti, the Clarity will reward you with high EV range.

Thanks Ken but my point is not about getting more milage. The car shows 55 ev miles on a full charge in the dashboard. I thought honda specified 47 ev miles on a full charge. I dont think the car has learnt my driving habits in the last 5 days to show an inflated number.
 
It adjusts range calculation fairly quickly to driving conditions. The 47 mile range is only applicable to EPA test. Not a real world number. We usually get between 30 and 60 in ours (winter with heat vs moderate with little climate control).

Honda never told the Clarity's computers about the EPA number--that's just for spec sheets. As Ken noted, the temperature alone can influence the EV range estimate. And it is definitely an estimate.
 
It updates at least every charge, so this is not at all unusual. Take some time reading through older posts on the forum and you will get a sense of what to expect in different conditions. I had it read as high as 68 after a drive in very slow traffic. A trip involving more highway speeds will lower the estimate for the next drive.

As Viking79 states, it does adjust to recent driving conditions very quickly. So 5 days, if driven every day, is plenty of time for it to show your reported better than EPA range estimate.
 
Just got my Clarity base model yesterday and am loving it! 37 mile commute (one way) to work daily will require tweaking to max-out ev / hv possibility. Toggled hv on for freeways and used ev for side roads yielding 123 avg fuel economy with 25 miles remaining on expected ev range for morning commmute. Going to try to pull in my garage tonight with the ev just clicking zero! (Charging at work is not an option)
 
I believe all Honda hybrids are rated conservatively to ensure they don't get caught like Ford did in 2014. Ford had to refund money to customers of their C-Max plug-in hybrid and 5 other cars when it was revealed they couldn't achieve the fuel efficiency on their window stickers. I've gotten 85 mpg on a tankful in my gen 1 Insight, which was originally rated 70 mpg. The EPA has since adjusted their calculations (twice) and now says my gen 1 Insight should get only 61 mpg.
 
A lot depends on how much altitude you gain or lose in your last charged period. After driving up a significant uphill section and then charging, my normal 53-55 range dropped to 47. I worked it’s way back up after more level driving.

Great, enjoy it. Try to use up all your EV range as you state, as it is more efficient to use power from the wall than gas. As you say, you will figure it out over time :) It sounds like it will be a great car for your commute.

I have a commute of 48 miles one way with 40 on highway. Luckily there are two free chargers at work so I use all ev miles in econ mode with no gas used. I did an experiment with running it in ev while in sports mode, consumes 5 miles worth of gas.

SPORT Mode doesn't inherently use gas. Monitor your POWER/CHARGE Gauge and keep it in the blue range to stay in EV Drive.

Follow-up from earlier today... Stopped at gas station close to home and topped-off. Real world numbers were 135.1 MPG (obviously including EV). I pay roughly 12 cents per kWh so charging cost plus current fuel means total cost of ~$2.75 for about 80 miles today. Had 2.6 EV miles remaining at end of the trip. Not too shabby!
 
the last week i have been consistently showing 94km/58m range on full charge and have achived > 75 km range with battery to spare consistent with the 84/58 initial range. Mostly flat city (Ottawa Ont), moderate to hot temepratures 0-35 C (68-95F) mostly under 60 kph (35mph).

The EPA rating of 75 KM ev range has always been exceeded. Most days we drive < 20 km and I assumed thta the long range at full charge was spurious. But apparently, and fortunately, not.

Most of my driving is at highway speeds (95-100 km/h). The range shows 92-95 km on a full charge and I actually get around 85 km, which is pretty awesome for highway driving using a/c (during this Ottawa heatwave). For those in Canada who have gotten their cars recently be aware that your EV range will be around 55 km during the winter.
 
I'm also in Ottawa and have been getting 75-85 km of pure Electric range per day since I got my car a month ago. Mostly city driving with a bit of highway. I always just use Econ mode. I just put in 14 l of gas last night after having driven 1661 km since my previous fill up which works out to 0.84 l / 100 km over that distance!. I'm loving the Clarity!!
 
An update for reference sake .... I just completed a tour from Ottawa to Boston and back. I drove a total of 1704 km, had 3 full charges (starting out plus two on the road at my hotel), cycled between EV and HV Charge mode on the highway throughout and ended up with an average consumption of 5.68 l/100 km (41.4 mpg) which is better than the Prius V I used to own would have achieved on the same drive under the same conditions.

So, for day to day driving at home where I'm pretty much pure battery, and road trips which is a mix of battery and ICE, this is by far the most economical and comfortable car I've ever owned/driven!
