Clarity easy to break into? I’ve had 3 break-ins

I don’t know if I’m having bad luck or what but I’ve had my clarity broken into three times in the last year. It’s happening in the Angeles national forest so it’s a bit out there but close enough to civilization to have issues. But I’ve been going to the Angeles for many years before I got my clarity and didn’t have even one break-in.

It looks like they just shove a screwdriver into the lock and open the door. After that, you can still lock the door but it’s very easy to open with any screwdriver-shaped object and it doesn’t make the second beep when it locks.

So are Clarities especially easy to break into or am I just having bad luck?

It costs $500 to fix the lock at the dealer so this time I was just going to not fix it. It locks so you would actually need to have intent to break in, so I figure it’s basically the same situation I’m in now.

I was also considering putting some jb weld into the lock, but then I wouldn’t be able to use it if I needed to. Not sure what to do. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Yeah, that’s definitely possible. I couldn’t tell if other cars were broken into except the last time, where I went with a friend and her car wasn’t broken into and mine was. Otherwise it’s hard to tell because they put everything back the way it was. Actually the first time my car got broken into I didn’t realize it until the second time. The only thing I noticed was that the car stopped beeping, and later discovered why.

Sadly, it is not the same...
Accord - 04921-TVA-A01 - $44
Clarity - 04921-TRT-A01 - $140

These parts "look" the same on the little diagrams, but they are likely different.

The Prius seems to be the low hanging fruit at the moment.

One could remove the Plug-in Hybrid badges for starters, this improves the appearance IMHO, and if so inclined, order Electric badges. That might fool a moderately intelligent thief.

Yup. I had one taken from a truck I was about to junk before I could get to it. In NH and VT they were hitting tow vehicles when people were out riding their snowmobiles...

With modern cordless tools it takes about 60 seconds to remove a cat from a truck. Cars that need to be jacked up take longer and attract too much attention.

I haven't heard anything about this. Offhand, I'd venture you're really unlucky and/or need to stop parking there, lol.

I really cannot imagine that these are being targeted. Even knowledgeable thieves probably have no idea what this car is.
 
One thought I had is since Honda is the most popular brand for thieves to attack, any Honda sedan is going to attract attention more than say a Subaru wagon.
I'd guess that less knowledgeable thieves probably mistake the Clarity for some variant of an Accord.

I would say your peace of mind is most important. You may consider an alerm that is touch sensitive. That would definitely mess with their heads.
