Riding on Full Self Driving (FSD) through the predawn darkness, I noticed how it resembled night flying in my Cherokee 140:

At 70 mph, my Tesla is 30 mph slower than the 100 mph Cherokee but when I arrive, I am in a car. The Cherokee had to takeoff and land at an airport with parking fees and miserable ground transportation. Best of all, I am where I wanted to go any time of the day or night (some airports are day time only.) Parking and ground transportation at a general aviation airport remains expensive, and frequently unobtanium.

Flying 100 mph burns 8 gallons/hr of 1977 $3.50/gallon aviation gas (3x car gas) about $0.28/mile. In 2024, my Tesla costs $3.00/100 miles or $0.03/mile, 9 times cheaper.

I love flying because airport-to-airport routes are direct, no lanes, and little traffic which is what FSD gives me. AutoPilot and now FSD removes the nuisance of navigation, lane lines, traffic lights, speed signs, and other cars so I can relax and enjoy the trip ... just like flying my Cherokee 140. Although the Tesla is 70% slower, I don't need hearing protectors as I listen to music or radio. It is stress free travel without having to deal with airports.

Block-to-block times in my FSD Tesla are often faster and vastly more affordable than my Cherokee 140. Tesla travel is more comfortable and affordable as Full Self Driving bringing to joys of flying to every road.
