Our car doesn't do that at all. The engine only comes on if we initiate it intentionally or accidently, or the battery level drops to minimum (which we don't let it do).
Unless we are on a long freeway trip (about once every 6 weeks) where we use HV and possibly Sport we are otherwise in ECON mode.
