AM still has something to offer besides hate radio.
I was disappointed to discover my electric MINI Cooper SE was FM-only. Later, thanks to smart members of Inside EVs' MINI Cooper SE forum, I was happy to learn I could use an OBDII device and a program called Bimmercode to remove the factory block on the built-in AM radio tuner--the car even included a wired-up AM antenna! Now I can listen to Detroit Tigers' baseball games the way they were meant to be heard--on muffled, static-plagued AM radio.
Why would they block AM radio? Was a time when AM was basically required because the Emergency Broadcast System was on AMAM still has something to offer besides hate radio.

I assume BMW determined the MINI EV's electrical system reduced the performance of the AM radio compared with it's performance in gas-powered MINIs. In truth, I can get only the strongest of Detroit's AM stations from 45 miles away. Fortunately, the sports station I listen to is in my town and comes in fine. Why would they block AM radio?
