Finally found a reputable source (Discount Tire Direct) for the compatiblity of aftermarket wheels (specifically offset vs width) for the Clarity. TireRack is must still be testing as they don’t offer wheels for this car yet.

Anyways here’s a summary of the sizes based on the models they confirm compatible:

18"
  • 18x8 35, 45 offset
  • 18x8.5 35 offset
  • 18x9 38, 40 offset

19"
  • 19x8 40 offset
  • 19x8.5 30, 35, 40, 42, 45 offset
  • 19x9.5 40 offset

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
This is just the kind of hard to find information on our new model Claritys that I come to this forum for.
Now if we could just have a way to make “stickies” for posts like these it would sure make information retrieval easier.
Go to the Tacoma forum to see what I mean. It’s such a better format.
How about it Domenick, can you make any transformational change to this forum?

The stock wheel have a 50 backspace. so those others would definitely stick out of little further. I'm looking at some with a larger backspace and lengthening the studs if necessary for a 5mm spacer. For aero I'm going with a flatter wheel.

Dana, where did you find that info? Just curious.

The stock spec is as follows:

Tires: Michelin Energy Saver A/S
Rim size: 18 x 8J (inset 50)
Tire size: 235/45R18 94V
Bolt hole PCD: 114.3 x 5
Thread: M12 x 1.5
Centre bore: 64.1mm

Not that this is a cost effective solution, but Tesla Model 3 wheels and tires perfectly fit the Clarity.

The base Model 3 18" wheels are slightly wider than the Clarity 8" wide wheels

  • 18x8.5 with +40 offset.
  • The tires are the exact right size 235/45R18
  • The 64.1mm center bore is identical to Honda so hubcentric spacer adapters are not required

The upgraded 19" wheels will also fit well.

  • 19x8.5 with +40 offset.
  • The tires are the recommended size 235/40R19
  • The 64.1mm center bore is identical to Honda so hubcentric spacer adapters are not required

So you don't think with a wider wheel and less positive offset that those rears would be into the fender lip?
I’m purely going by the wheel width and offset fitment as measured and sold by Discount Tire Direct. I’m also waiting for TireRack to release their numbers as well since both go through a rigorous process to ensure the is no rubbing or contact with the wheel well, suspension components or brakes under load, full compression and full turns lock to lock.

Thx in advance!

Thank you!

Thanks Chris, that’s a pretty handy tool to understand offset in isolation.

What we need to also account for is the available static and dynamic clearances of the rim and tire combo relative the he fender edge, suspension components (strut, spring, shock, control arms) and brake components.

The dynamic clearances are key since suspension compression and/or turns under full lock can lead to interference.
This is why physical testing by reputable shops that guarantee figment are a great way to confirm safe compatibility of aftermarket wheel and tire combinations.
