It feels like a large cross-section of the industry has finally clued in about
two key design aspects: 1> flat battery sleds under the whole floor which
don't put a big wart between the rear wheels, and 2> heat pumps. I'm sure
the taller crossover form factor helps quite a bit with the former.

Interior space of the cabin/trunk should never be wasted like the rectangular battery in the Prius Prime over the legacy, spare tire circular impression. Toyota could have oversized the spare tire tub and fitted either the battery pack or a spare tire for 'ordinary' cars. The 'corner' spaces for an ordinary car will be extra storage niches.

As for the RAV4, it was the first collaborative Tesla/Toyota vehicle that near as I can tell, Toyota repelled from ... much to their loss. An 18650 pack could have easily fit in that space with active thermal control and been a game changer ... more than doubling the EV range.
