My mini se display went black today. After a few hours at rest I tried it, and it came alive.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Hi Cburg
I have the same problem. 21 reg Mini Cooper s. Instrument Pod goes blank but car still drives OK. It happened to me twice while driving
no speedo and no energy and milage display, nothing. It has been hot in the UK recently I tried a heat shield idea to keep the temperature on the Instrument Pod cooler. In the sun always leave windows a bit open and the heat shield lowers the Instrument pod by about 25C
but problem still occurs. Early today it was quite cool outdoor temperature 14.8C but no display then one hour or so later it lit up OK. A couple of times plugging the charger seemed to kick it into life but not sure this is a solution to problem

I think there are a number of posts on this subject see below
hope this helps

The CID, or the oval display on the steering wheel?

If the latter, check the cable/connection. I haven't dug around behind mine to tell you where it is, but have heard of this issue (which isn't restricted to the EV model) before.

hi all

It is the small oval pod in front of the steering wheel --it goes completely blank see picture attached
I went out for a drive to a local shop around 10 miles and it was perfect no problem at all
but I have notice when it is running it does get quite warm to the touch. Local BMW service place
in the village is offered to put his computer on it to see it it gives any clues but waiting for it to got wrong !!
weather is cooler today

anyway when it next does it I will drop it round to the dealer and see if computer can see any clues P7150713.webp

Hi Bob!
This sounds just like mine.
Do you know how I could contact this guy to see what he has found out about it?
Thanks so much!
Mike
Sorry, I didn't notice that this was you!
I contacted my nearest Mini dealer today and made an appointment. It's 130 miles away, so I'll have to charge to get there. I checked reviews, and they seem to overcharge people. I might try to work on it myself.

hi All
went to the farm shop today for weekly fruit and veg and when I got there (6 miles) the display was flashing irregular and then went blank
so on the way back took it to the local BMW ( not a main) dealer. He put his computer on it and despite a blank display there were no display fault codes showing. There were some fault codes but he said that it was not unusual to find fault codes on system you don't use I dont have a mobile phone linked up for example. He thought the code related to the fact that this facility was never set up. He was of the opinion that the instrument Pod display was faulty. He rang up BMW and got a quote for the Instrument Pod and it was £471-26 + VAT. He cautioned against getting a second hand one in that he believes that the pod is linked to the car and needs to be paired , with a BMW service computer, to match the car. He was of the opinion than once programmed it could not be reprogrammed so need to be cautious with second hand part off the web
He felt that as I have had the car from the main dealer new and had it serviced with them and it has only done 13500 miles that I should be able to negotiate a better price. Lets see !! I am not enamoured with the local main dealer.

Anyway in seems not only me who will be negotiating with main dealers !!

I was there for around 20 minutes ,he didn't charge me , but I have used this particular garage for around 40years before they became linked to BMW so that fact probably helped.

lets see how we get on-- wish me luck!!

cheers

Bob
