Well, Gopher our 2017 Nissan Leaf that we picked up in January of this year just got her traction battery replaced last week!
When we purchased the car it had 8 bars out of 12, after a quick call to Nissan Canada they assured me that it was under warranty until May of 2026. We completed the deal and a couple days after we brought her home I booked her in for a battery health check at Windsor Nissan.
After inspecting the car my service advisor told me that the car did indeed have a battery that was in warranty replacement territory. He forwarded the issue to Nissan Canada for a decision.
About 2 weeks later I got a call from said service advisor that warranty had been approved and the battery had been ordered.
No arrival date was discussed as there was no way to know for a bit.
Early in June I was informed the battery had been shipped and would arrive in mid July.
A date was set and we dropped Gopher off on a Tuesday morning. Later Wednesday I was called that the car was ready to pick up. I asked the service advisor if he could confirm the capacity of the new battery and he said assuredly that it was a 30KHW. I thanked him and headed to pick up the car. Once I signed off on the paperwork and got into the car I fired it up and it showed 62% SOC and 164km on the Guess O Meter!!!
This bode well for the battery capacity....I knew it was a 40KWH, but still I plugged in the OBD reader and fired up Leaf Spy and it confirmed that it was a 40KWH. Really good news.
When I arrived home I plugged the car into my Level 2 power supply and let her charge....finished off at 288KM anticipated range!
Well been driving it for 2+ weeks now and it has more than ample range! To say we are delighted is an understatement....this takes our previuos maximum warm weather range from about 135 - 145km. To well over 250km. Amazing our 7 year old Leaf is a new car.
It compliments our 2022 Ioniq5 extremely well and we love them both but in all honesty I really do love that quirky little Gopher!
Cheers!
