You can get any HV range from 280 to 1000 miles. It shows miles HISTORICALLY driven on the remaining gasoline, ADDING to it EV miles over MANY charges. If you use EV mode only, say for the last 2K miles, it will assume you will get this range from the gasoline going forward. The 1000 mi is a hard cutoff. It is possible to fool it the other way around and reach 60-80 EV range. Just drive aggressively in the sport mode all the time, and this time the EV counter will asssume that you are getting this whole range from EV. Another lovely trick is to get the HV range to 1000 mi, then drive EV until the you reach low EV mi, and then press the HV->EV charge. The battery will be charging, the EV range will go up, but 1000 HV range will not go down immediately, as the computer remembers the 2k number prior to the cutoff. As a result, you will see the Total range increasing from 1000 to 1020+ while parked or even driving uphill. Hope it helps, and you can really impress people with your perpetuum mobile.

Have you had all the Service Bulletin updates done? Also try normal driving in HV for 100 miles to use about 2gal and then fill up. It may need more past HV to make a reasonable estimate.
    Let us know what happens.

This exact same thing happened to me today, except in miles. After conversion to kms, it is equivalent to your numbers almost perfectly .

I am assuming that it is just calibrating itself, as I too was certain that no gas was being used during the HV range reduction???

For some background. As of today, I've driven 2691 miles. I have used under 10 gallons of gas total.. My HV range is always 300 to 350 miles.

OK - how is this for strange ... got the software upgrade - and things appear normal. Filled up Aug 16th. Have used no gas since then.
Range WAS 560 km.... 3 days ago it INCREASED to 575 km (and baby it's cold outside)... still haven't use any gasoline.

Same here -almost a month ago. Driving on a full tank, the EV Range dropped over a period of 2 days, stepping suddenly down from 352 mi to 345 and then to 321 miles while driving with no ICE activity. After those stepdowns, it stayed constant for weeks, until I actually ran the ICE, and then it incremental went down appropriately, a tenth of a mile at a time. I don't quite know what was going on, but it put the estimated range into a more realistic estimate. I haven't added any gas since that activity, but I'm hoping when I fill up, it will move back to around the 321 miles, or less.

I went from 356 to 325 without using gas at all. Practically identical to your numbers and another poster's.

    Gotta be calibration.

Same thing happened to me today. Without any ICE activity, the HV range changes from 381mi to 355mi. Do not know why

From this thread , I've concluded that it is calibration. Has it stopped dropping for you? Mine initially did this, but eventually stopped.

Yes- it is a little aggravating when you think that it may be burning gas when it shouldn't be; but it's not. Just calibrating.

Yes. It stopped at 355 mile now. I think you are right. It is just calibration. 381 miles range seems too high for 7 gallon with 42 mpg

Remember you can see if the gas engine is on via 2 methods. My preferred is to hit info, then Vehicle energy. The engine is on the top of the screen . If you see blue bars coming from the engine icon- you're burning fuel. If not, you're not.

I believe the engine can be running but not providing power to either the wheels or battery, such as when you're going downhill while the engine is doing its warming-up thing. If the engine icon is lit on the Energy Flow screen, the engine is running and you're burning fuel.

If the EV indicator isn't illuminated on the instrument panel, the ICE is running.

Wouldn't it make sense to at least charge the battery if it's already running?

Yes, but the Clarity does things in HV Mode that I don't understand. Sometimes the engine icon is lit on the Energy Flow screen with no power flowing from it.

And I can add that on mine when I go downhill at all and regen starts that the ICE turns off every time. Then restarts as needed. I have seen every possible combination of every flows in HV. Also I can’t for the life of me find why the gear icon/Engine Mode starts and stops other than for going uphill/higher torque. And thankfully I have never heard the angry bees even on steep hills (had plenty of charge) and in town and at 55 mph on rolling hills (after letting it deplete to 0 EV/2 bars).
On the depleted battery described above, the ICE was always at a low rpm and on the steep hills at 55-65 mph with plenty of charge I only heard a very moderate rpm increase. My Clarity is acting perfectly. Although I assume that if I tried the depleted battery on a steep hill or at colder temps w heating/defrosting, I would be asking for the angry bees.

As someone has already noted, our Claritys seem to be exhibiting individual behavior despite supposedly having the same software and hardware of a single model year.

Finally had ours done last week. It came out OK, but the days of thinking we had 1000 miles of range are definitely gone for good. Out of the service dept, the range was 210 miles (half a tank plus 40 EV miles). So I suspect the range estimates are going to be pretty close to true from now on. Unfortunately, we only fill that car about once every six weeks, so it'll be another few months before I can confirm that. Our dealer almost insisted that we do all the updates even if we weren't having problems - and I could've probably said no, but there haven't been any issues so far. Not sure why they had to replace the AC controller or some valve - but if it saves us from a problem later on, then fine.

I had same updates applied over two months ago and after running the car in various modes etc...I notice no material change in how the car operates...or sounds.

At first I thought the clutch gear wasn't engaging as often as before the updates but after a few methodical test runs, I feel confident that is not the case.

Some folks have reported some difficulty with the climate control system. There is a procedure outlined in TSB 18-090 (pdf) which folks can perform themselves if it becomes an issue as outlined by @leop in the post directly above the pdf.

    Hope this helps.

    Good luck.
