I replaced the two crappy subs yesterday. I replaced the front speakers a few months ago with reasonably priced Focal RCX-100 ($87). They improved the sound greatly but was severely lacking bass. I had not intended on changing out the subs as they are about $600/ pair. But I was browsing on eBay and came across the Audison subs from a seller in Germany for $350/pair. I got them to lower the price a little since I was buying a pair. Shipping was high ($80) but very fast. After taxes the total was $439. I am very happy with sound. It blends in with my fronts very well. I am really impressed with the stock amplifier as it sounds amazing and it did not clip when I turned it up to the highest volume level that I could tolerate. I don’t think I will be changing out the back speakers because it would be too much work. I just fade the sound to the front .

Got the rest of the driver's door carbon vinyl finished today. The curves of the trim are difficult!

Nice, but I'm still unhappy MINI hasn't produced any SE-specific swag. I'd be happy to pay them.

    PSA: don't hit raccoons.

Lil ******* literally ran right in front of me at the last second, fortunately came out "relatively" unscathed, was going about 50mph. Main damage was some hairline cracks in the bumper cover on the backside (can't be seen unless bumper cover is off), broken upper tabs on the grill shutters, and bent lower cross support.

Was able to bend the lower cross support back into place, epoxy the tabs back onto the shutters, and fiber epoxy the cracks in the back of the bumper cover to strengthen it. Took about 3 hours. Front bumper is actually pretty easy to remove compared to other cars.

Sorry to hear, glad it wasn't something worse.

My wife collided with a deer in our Clubman last week, fortunately no injury (deer ran off, no sign of it). We got the windshield replaced and it's completely drivable, even the smashed headlight still works! No mechanical damage, amazingly, but the fake hood scoop is a goner. It's going to take quite some time for the body repair.

    MINIs are tough, safe cars.

Wow that was quite a dense raccoon!!

Glad to see you both were ok/safe in the end.

perhaps someone should tell MINI that removing the fake hood scoop would reduce insurance costs ...

I swapped my brake pads for EBCs today. Red on the front, yellow on the back. The idea being to get a bit more bite and rear brake bias. I did it without service mode on the back or taking calipers apart to wind it back. I had little wear after 4500 miles, so had enough play get one new pad in. I then reassembled loosely, brake on and off a few times then did the other pad.

On my shakedown drive, I tried the fingerbrake while rolling at low speed It does come on and kills motor power. Releases as soon as I let go. Could be useful next time I autocross...

I'm seriously considering some nice yellow shocks, now.

We are supposed to get a light snowfall tonight, and I have to top up for a 200 mile drive tomorrow, so I’m trying out my magnetic charging port boot for the first time.

Oooh, where did you get that? The charging port does not look very water resistant. I usually charge in my carport, but if I was out and it was precipitating, I'd like something like this.

It's all plastic and it was determined there's a tiny pinhole drain. I think the only thing that could corrode would be the internal contacts, but they get scrubbed every time a charge cable is plugged in. I never worry about water. But I really like that hood because I've found if snow gets in the charge port in the middle of the winter it's tough to get out, since it never heats up to melt.

Sure enough, getting that shot of… something now. It’s 35°F so the snow isn’t accumulating on the driveway, but the wind is causing it to build up a layer of rime on the cars.
