I finally got around to checking the manufacture date on the placard, only to discover that I am not sure if the first digit is a "1" or a "7". Pardon my not posting the VIN here, but is there a way to discover the manufacture date from the VIN? I invoked a few of the free VIN lookups and they don't include manufacture date. Here's the date from the placard.

  3. That looks very different than the 1 in '18, so I'd assume it's a 7....

    Definitely a 7. Here's the difference:

Excellent points, both. Thank you. That was, obviously, the answer I wanted.

There exist databases keyed by the VIN, for example Carfax. I was hoping that maybe there was a database maintained by some central agency that contained additional information beyond what was coded into the number itself. And maybe there is, but not accessible to the general public for free.
