I was excited to learn that Michigan just brought back Michigan plates with the vintage U-of-M colors and the old license-plate slogan. I was going to switch my current vanity plate to one of these, which would look good on my Moonwalk Grey SE with the optional Energetic Yellow mirror caps and grille blade. Sadly, as I typed in my 7-letter vanity plate letters, ELEKTRO, I couldn't enter the "O"! They're taking this vintage thing too far by limiting vanity plates to the old 6 letters instead of the current 7.
Do you vote? If so, you're an ELEKTR! I like it, and love the color. On another note, I didn't know CA was offering legacy black/yellow plates. I already applied for my decal, don't know if I have to do it again if I change plates.
The irony, of course, is that traditional hybrids can ONLY use gasoline as their fuel. There is no alternate, just slightly less of the same stuff. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
Nice! What part of the state are you in? Just wondering where I should keep an eye out. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
I'm in Amsterdam NY, Exit 27 on the NYS Thruway. I finally got the original license plate yesterday and installed.
Looks great! I'm in Syracuse, I often pass by Amsterdam. On occasion, I get off and drive through on my way to visit friends in Saratoga. I've always admired the town - it's a cute old industrial city from the Erie Canal days. I'll be on the lookout for your plate. Although most of the time I'm out that way, I'm driving a different car.
I actually live in a small little village called Hagaman which is surrounded by Amsterdam. I too love Saratoga! It's a 25-minute drive for me to downtown Saratoga and I go there quite a bit in the summer. 25 minutes away from me and it's a different world than Amsterdam. My other fun car for the summer months is a 2021 Corvette Stingray which is most likely what I would be driving to Toga in the Summer. I bought the Cooper because the Vette is stored in my garage for the winter and it was killing me not being able to drive the Vette all winter. I like fun unique vehicles and I like EV's so the Cooper fit the bill for a winter daily driver and summer rainy days. I'll pick up some all season tires for next winter though. Your member name reminds me of a Vanity plate I had on a 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV that I owned which read, "Off Gas." The Spark EV wasn't offered in NYS but I ended up getting one from Ken Barret Chevrolet in Batavia NY. Here's my summer ride, if you see me in Toga this summer flag me down!
My vanity plate came in today! Named after a badass Jedi lol. Question, has anyone figured out where to buy the front plate folder for SE without drilling the hole? The one from MiniMania said does not fit SE. thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
I was so angry at myself after taking delivery of Uncle Larry after realizing I'd forgotten to tell them NOT to put on the front plate. Yes, there's a page of the 100 pages that acknowledges that you accept liability if it is NOT placed, but I didn't realize they defaulted to adding the plate. I've been driving in CA with 2 BMWs since 2013, never had a front plate, and never been pulled over for it. I cried a little when I removed the SE front plate and saw both the drill holes as well as the scars from the plate itself. Then I got over myself. Ordered from BumperPlugs which has color-matched plugs that cover the holes. Look like more parking sensors, but the color is good. They tell you to drill larger holes to make them fit, which I would never do, but if you just alter the stems they fit fine.
ahh.. thats so sad.. i asked my friend.. pay $93 for the holder or have them drill the holes.. he's like buy the holder haha.. ok! done!
Every time the Michigan legislature starts mumbling about adding mandatory front plates to make it easier to identify criminals (I assume they mean to catch me speeding with photo-radar), I try to write a letter stating all the reasons it's not a good idea. Unfortunately, the only reason I ever come up with is better aerodynamics leading to greater fuel efficiency. People purchasing vanity plates in Michigan can order a front plate for only a few bucks extra. I always pop for the second plate just to hang it in my garage with my other vanity plates.
Is there a difference between the SE one and the ICE Cooper? Because they have blemished ones for $20 less. I'm going to be taking off the front grille to install neodymium magnets on the back of the grille and on my front plate. That way it's easy to remove the plate when you want to. I've done this to my last two cars and they've held up great. And it's so easy to remove/install when you want to take photos of your car - which for me, is OFTEN.
Do you occassionally find random road-screws and nails attached to your magnetic bumpers? We hope you'll photograph your magnetic attachment installation for us before sending us your plateless photos often.
I've reserved another option for my SE: Not sure which I'll go with (other reservation is for "PLUGME-IN")...
