http://www.motoringfile.com/2020/10/31/exclusive-mini-prepping-all-electric-jcw-gp-for-release/ Meanwhile, I read elsewhere that Mini is supposed to be previewing a new model at the iNext event. Considering that this prototype is already on the road whereas new electric SUV(s) are apparently still in the planning stages, could this vehicle be it?
Sadly, you're probably right. One can always dream, though, right? (The ICE version of the JCW GP has no rear seat... which seems like a good excuse to me to do the same with an EV version, and use some of that space for a bigger battery. Add a more powerful motor and the ICE's suspension bits, and you would truly have a "hot hatch".)
This comment on the Electrek story on this is illuminating (if accurate). Second motor wouldn't be much weight, and there are newer battery packs that deliver 50% more capacity in same size.
