I didn't get a pic, but yesterday as I was getting into my car at the supermarket, another Island Blue/Piano Black SE pulled in. I delayed leaving until the (apparent) mother and teenaged son got out and then noticed me. We all smiled and exchanged pleasantries, and admitted it was nice to finally meet our "twins."
Oh no! Saw a 2021 SE stopped on the shoulder of a freeway near downtown Minneapolis, it looked in distress . It was gray with white roof (I think) and yellow mirror caps. I was on a parallel freeway so I couldn't stop. Was it a flat tire? Or mechanical failure? I suppose running out of charge is possible, but being stuck on the freeway when that happens seems unlikely.
Okay, this is a first for me. I spotted two SEs in the wild in one day. I saw another SE on my way home this evening, in the suburbs east of St. Paul. It was a 2021 BRG with a black roof and mirror caps. We passed each other on a surface street.
As I’m in NY and driving every weekend throughout all boroughs from Staten Island north 140 miles round trip to CT for past 2 years I never meet SE on a road as I pay attention to every Mini on a road and with my SE I challenge all those SUW,s try to intimidate my small car as idiots don’t know what electric Mini can do living them in dust and really nobody knows a Mini could be electric car with that performance.
Yes, MINI ran just one TV ad for the SE and very briefly. Many are surprised it exists. Sadly, not only is the SE gone from North American MINI showrooms (probably forever), but even the giant electric Countryman doesn't appear on MINI's list of 2026 models. I'm so glad the many SE drivers in my town are on the lookout for each other and always wave enthusiastically. It happened again just yesterday. Other MINI drivers wave, too, but much more casually.
The Countryman SE is mentioned in the Model Year 2026 Lineup as a footnote: *Above pricing does not include $1,175 for Destination & Handling. The MINI Countryman SE ALL4 will remain as a Model Year 2025. Details regarding future pricing and offer structure for this model will be announced at a later date.
That's the faintest note of confidence MINI could possibly convey. Next year, do buyers have to choose from the unsold Countryman SEs built this year? When the Countryman SEs in the built-in-2025 parking lot run out, is that the end of MINI EVs for NA? Curses on MINI's financial decision to move MINI EV production to China. Curses on the tariffs that deny us cars that in no way compete with US-built cars. Curses on the invention of the SUV and the cheap gas that made the SUV's popularity possible!
There's going to be a LCI on the U25 BEV in March 2026. Probably some battery and motor updates for better DC fast charging.
