It's one thing for a car's electronics to limit the maximum engine speed, but the Clarity goes much further because its electronics completely control the engine speed with no direct input from the accelerator, so there's never a question of violating the redline. Driver floors accelerator; Clarity: "What? Did the human just make a request?"

I use the Kiwi 4 OBDll device from PLX. It is expensive but I wanted to have one with a SD card so I could "set it and forget it". I like the fact I can let it run a day, a week, a month...then download .csv files and have a sack full of data points to pull from. I don't want to mess with a phone/tablet every time I drive so I basically forget about it until my calendar tells me to pull it...lol. I have it set up to generate a new log file every time I start the Clarity...seemed simplest to me.

PLX has their own free app which needs to used to set up the self run mode. Otherwise, other OBDll apps work just fine like Torque Pro etc. via bluetooth. The device can be run either in self-run mode or manual mode via bluetooth...not both at the same time.

A big plus for some buddies and I...The SD card feature allows collections of data from many vehicles regardless of the driver as it requires no intervention. This provides a virtual treasure trove of data. Eventually hope to get some custom PIDs up and running.

Does the Kiwi 4 give any Hydrid data? Battery charge level, Battery voltage, generator load?

The kiwi4, like other OBDll devices, provides the typical info such as RPM's, mph, 12 volt battery SOC etc right out of the box since these are common outputs for most vehicles .

The app that one chooses to use with the OBDll device can typically be "customized" to include manufacture outputs such as hybrid battery info through the use of Parameters ID's (PIDS). Therein lies the challenge. This PID info is not given up easily by the manufactures so folks spend time and effort trying to figure the correct sequence in order to obtain relevant info that you seek.

@leop, among others, is working on customized PIDs for the torque pro app specific to the Clarity

@AnthonyW is working with Scan Gauge folks to ferret out PID info for the Clarity and I am on the same tract as well with SGll.

Two threads with info on the SGll PIDs may prove informative:

    https://insideevsforum.com/community/index.php?threads/scangauge-ii-extended-pids-capacity-and-specific-energy.2633/

    https://insideevsforum.com/community/index.php?threads/scangauge-ii-obdii-extended-pids-temperature.4435/

This is the long way to say...no the Kiwi4 will not provide hybrid battery info out of the box...customized PIDs will be made available once the magic elixir in located.

    Hope this helps.

At least one OBD bluetooth scanner (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005NLQAHS/) includes traction battery state of charge right out of the box through the Torque Pro app (which costs $5). It logs the data to your phone via bluetooth and then you can move it to Google Drive, email, etc. to access the data. It does the standard other sensors as well (RPM, 12V battery voltage, etc.) and can also tie in the data from the phone (accelerometers, GPS, time, etc.).

Custom PIDs as mentioned by Clarity_Newbie can be added, but I haven't attempted doing that yet.

It's probably a function of the app more so than the scanner itself. The little I played with torque pro I vaguely remember traction battery SOC.

Traction battery SOC is considered instrumentation data...(ie) it's already available via the gauge on the dash and Honda link. That however does not diminish it's value for anylytical purposes.

I had my blinders on and should have been more clear...I seek traction battery info which will provide long term traction battery health info to assist the consumer in keeping abreast of it's condition.

As they say today "my bad" ... should've been mo' clear.

I am using Blue Driver system, and SOC comes right out of the box. I have been recording, but I need to start a new log each time I start the car. I heard the kiwi4 has a log autostart mode, and that seems interesting. I think I will just keep my existing system, unless something offers more data.

The battery health data is also really important, and I would love to get that also.
