Tell me how to measure the center bore and I'll go down to the basement where my OEM wheels with snow tires are waiting for winter and perform that measurement.
I’ve seen that measurement in several places. It’s the size of the hole that holds the wheel https://www.wheel-size.com/articles/centre-bore/ When the wheel bore is larger you insert a ring to make it fit. That way the weight is not on the bolts. Also need the correct type of bolts for the wheel.
Looking at that tire size also. Michelin x-ice are approved from 6 to 7.5. Narrower wheel would be better protected from sidewalk scraping but will be closer to the brakes.
I bought some wheel center caps that claimed to fit a Clarity, but didn’t. If you don’t mind taking a mm tape measure to the basement and confirming the 64mm (64.1mm actually, but I know you can’t measure to the nearest 0.1mm!) diameter of the hole in the center of the wheel, I’d appreciate it. Honda makes many sizes of center bore on their wheels.
I measured the inside wheel bore at about 64mm. After popping off the plastic spokes, the outside wheel bore appears to be about 55mm.
69mm is what you're looking for . The clip on the inside fit 64.1 but the total diameter is 69mm from the front. These fit my Costco rims. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B00LIS2ZJW?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_pd
Hello, My Enkei wheel came and it's a great fit. No clearance issues with the brake caliper; there's about 3/4" space between the brake caliper and the wheel. The model is Enkei M52 with +50mm offset. The wheel is 7.5" wide. "Hyper Black" (oddly this is not black) is a nice match for the car, it's about the same color as the hubcaps on the stock Honda wheels. I'll report back once I have the tires mounted.
Yes it is. And 64.1mm is a common bore diameter. It's in the specs, I've also measured it with a caliper and I have a set of centering rings that fit it.
I appreciate the followup and link, but 69mm center caps do not fit the OEM Honda Clarity wheels. That's what I purchased and they don't come close to fitting, though they may be fine on the Costco wheel. I suspect the answer is in what @insightman posted and the correct OEM cap is 55mm (after removing the plastic spokes).
Just to add the information here, 16" wheels won't clear the front brakes, so 17" is smallest wheel you can use.
I had the studded tires mounted today and I put them on the car and we did a test drive. It drove great, just the typical sound of the claws hitting the road. We're ready for the winter. These are Enkei M52 with studded Firestone Winterforce 2 215/55R17 all from the Tire Rack. I have 40 PSI in these.
I noticed that the OE Michelins appear to be siped as well, so they may not even do that badly in the snow.
Although I don't put too much emphasis on any one info source, the reviews and ratings on the Tire Rack site indicate the Energy Saver A/S are not good winter tires. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Michelin&tireModel=Energy+Saver+A%2FS#RatingsReviews
I've bought the following and have test fitted them. Everything works as expected. Will install them once it get cold enough. Tire: From Costco.ca. Pirelli Winter Ice Zero 215/55R17 98H Rim: 17" rims are as small as you can go. On my rims, the stick-on wheel balancing weights on the inner face of the rim just clear the front caliper with about 3/4" clearance. [The clearance depends on the rim manufacturer and they don't publish it as part of the specs. I've had issues with a brand of 17" rims on my wife's Lexus where the inner edge was rubbing the caliper.] My 7.5" wide rim with 40mm offset compared to the OEM 8" with 50mm offset. It extends out towards to fender by an extra 4mm but there are no clearance issues. End Result:
Oh no, now I have to correct myself. I think it's my brain that is siped. Those were exactly the tires we got.
So finally have time to check with Costco.ca on rim and tires. I guess the 17" rim that cost $69.99 (4th one on the list) is the correct one to order? https://www.c-wheels.ca/en/fitmentsearch/result/index/?year=2018&make=Honda&model=Clarity&submodel=Plug-in+Hybrid Also check the price for Michelin X-Ice III, total including everything for 215/55R17 is $899.99 so total for tires and rim is $1216.35
Look at Canadian Tire for rims. They have 50 offsets and are cheaper -- quality looks the same to me.
