Also, we have been focused on the Electric Powertrain data for obvious reasons, but as I mentioned originally, there are a total of 22 modules that provide all kinds of other data.

I would like to provide everyone a snapshot of all this data in it's entirety.

I have attached a .zip file that includes printouts of ALL the data that I obtained with the AP200 (the .zip file also contains the Electric Powertrain that was previously provided).

Sorry for any confusion, but blame the confusion on Autel for not being clear and transparent with their pricing system on the new devices. This lack of clarity is also partly due to the language barrier which I'm sure we have all experienced in other ways too.

Just ordered mine. Anxiously awaiting now. Wondering if I can use this with an old Samsung Galaxy S6 as replacement for my ScanGuage II -- or I can use a pigtail and both at the same time! :)

    Thanks bpratt .. especially after Mr Fixits latest info that only this one will work without annual subscription. I have ordered it;
and guess will need Mr Fixits help to get the appropriate software for our Clarity.

We are all at the mercy of Autel for this...
At least this functionality has been demonstrated.
I will keep on them in order to make it publicly available, and will update everyone as soon as I learn that it is !

The discounts are over. My PayPal purchase cost me $54.99, but I'm glad I learned about the subscription software required for the newer versions of this device. I've never forgiven Adobe for switching to subscriptions and it bugs me every time I have to pay them.

Hi Insightman - me too - except Can so $75 :-( look forward to getting it and the Honda update software.

OT - I work for an Apple reseller; and we used Adobe Illustrator in-house... We discovered that free Affinity Designer does what we need to produce info sheets on our Apple products. maybe that might help you Regards John

I picked up my AP200 yesterday. I haven't had time to open it.

Another update from Autel this morning...

After multiple exchanges, I am now reasonably certain that the ability to read this "Live Data" (which includes the Electric Powertrain information) does indeed cease unless the manufacturer subscription is renewed (annually). With the AP200C/H/M devices this will cost you $15 to $20 per year to maintain this capability.

Although this is not unreasonable, my recommendation stands that the original AP200 may be a better choice because of the free lifetime updates for one manufacturer. It is definitely still available and Autel indicates they do not plan to discontinue at this time.

Thank you again, @MrFixit, for your persistence and persuasiveness. Thanks to you, we are step closer to being able to read our Clarity's battery capacity whenever we want--and for half the price a stingy Honda dealer's service department would charge to to do it once.

I bought an AP200 right after you announced the beta software Autel sent you could read the Clarity's battery capacity. I haven't opened the package yet.

    Can you answer these questions?
    1. How I set it up initially to ensure the free lifetime updates for Honda cars?
    2. If you set it up for Honda cars, will it pull any codes for non-Honda cars?
    3. To whom do I write to say I'm waiting for the software update that can read my Clarity's battery capacity?
    4. Do you know if Autel has AP200 software that can read the battery capacity of any other car? (I'd buy a second one).
    Thanks!

    @insightman -

    Question 1:
It has been a while since I did this, but I just looked at the AP200 manual, and it is pretty straight-forward. Here is the manual:
    https://www.autel.com/u/cms/www/201910/30032935vzl0.pdf

There is a "Getting Started" section beginning on Page 6.

As you go through this procedure (Steps 1-7), please note if anything seem to deviate from this procedure, and let us know. I don't recall any specific deviations, but as I say, it has been a while...

Now, at that point, if you go to the diagnostics screen, this is where the available vehicles will appear.
You add to this list by using the "+" button, and browsing to the desired manufacturer.

Note - There are two diagnostics functions that are always free, and do not count as your first free manufacturer. These are called "Eobd" and "Demo". You will have an option to "Download" each of these and they will download and then install.

Use the "+" to navigate to Honda and download / install it... I think it will automatically install another App called "Diag-Asia" which is also required for Honda.

You should get to the point where you have 3 items in the diagnostics list ("Eobd", "Demo", and "Honda").

Since you "Registered", and the App knows your serial number (by binding with the device), it is aware of your single free manufacturer. It will be applied to whichever one you downloaded (in this case Honda). You will have a confirmation of this because each of the three diagnostic items shows an Expiration Date... These three should have a little infinity symbol indicating they never expire. You should see version 2.01 for Honda (this is pre-beta... I see 2.01.54 on mine)

    Question 2:
Yes, the always free EOBD and Demo diagnostics can pull codes from any vehicle. I think these are the generic non-vehicle specific OBD2 functions like oxygen sensors, etc. that all vehicles are required to have. You will not get specialized data, but just the required emissions stuff that all manufacturers must deliver. I think it will report check-engine codes (and maybe allow clearing them).

    Question 3:
I am a little hesitant to initiate something that may bother Autel...
They were very cooperative in delivering this beta code that I verified for them, and they were very clear (although non-committal as to a specific date) that they would incorporate this into the next major release. They are bundling this along with a lot of other 'fixes' that relate to other Honda models (and still require testing before release). All they would say right now is 1Q 2021. I would plan to wait until maybe early April (end of 1Q) and then bug them again if a release has not come out. I don't want to get them annoyed at me !

    Question 4:
I don't know about other vehicles. If I had to venture a guess, I would think that the longer a vehicle has been out, the better chance there is for full featured support. Also, the more popular vehicles should have a better chance. For instance, a Volt would likely have good support at this point. Autel can only provide what the manufacturer makes available of course. I suspect most any EV would somehow monitor battery capacity, but its possible that the exact parameter is quite different than the Clarity's Amp-Hour rating.

Here is thought... Set up your AP200 with Honda as your free manufacturer. Purchase the other manufacturer and try it (good for a year). If it gives you what you want, then purchase another AP200 and set it up with that vehicle as the free one... Then just don't renew the 2nd vehicle on the 1st AP200 ! You will then go forward with two AP200's, each with free lifetime subscriptions...

This is a great device. Thank you for sharing! My only question/concern is that is whether Honda will accept the data reported by this report in case there're any issues?

    @Mike J ,
Quite often people on this forum report that they do not get as many EV miles as they used to. While it is possible that the battery is at fault, it is usually something else because there are so many variables affecting EV range.

The point here is that Honda chose to not report the most basic measure of the [very expensive] battery performance to us. Since the warranty is totally based on the remaining battery capacity (and they gave us no visibility) we are flying blind and guessing whether the battery is going bad, or whether it is just one of the many other expected factors that is affecting range. Note, that some battery degradation over time is totally expected.

It is clear that this measurement is the exact same data that Honda will access when they are checking your vehicle to see if the HV battery is healthy (or qualifies for warranty service). Instead of guessing, and asking (or paying them) to read out this parameter, we can do it ourselves. This provides us with valuable information to know in advance whether it is even necessary to take the vehicle to the dealer for potential battery service, plus it keeps Honda honest and allows us to know the answer in advance.

I bought a TV tuner for my xbox one for $60, because they promised full DVR. They eventually decided not to add the DVR feature....

I am very excited for this release, but once bitten twice shy.

I am getting battery test next week from the dealer. Also my 2018 doesn't have those noise plugs :-\

Point well taken. I did go ahead and buy the Autel AP200 device (still in plastic). Waiting for firmware update that can read the Clarity battery.
My dealer charged me $120 to read the traction battery. They have not been good to work with generally, and I had to pull some teeth to get the reading at all. So being able to read it myself has a lot of value in my case.

Me, too: AP200 still in plastic months later. How does Autel notify customers about upgrades?

  20. MrFixit

    MrFixit Well-Known Member

There is no notification process that I am aware of.

Every time you invoke the App, it displays the current revision of the Honda Diagnostics, and it checks online for any updates. If an update is available, it will present you with the option to download and install.

I am keeping an eye on this. When the update comes out, I will make sure that it works and post my findings in this thread. The current version of the Honda Diagnostics (that doesn't work) is V2.01. I am thinking the new release would be 3.0, but I am not sure.

Autel's estimated release was 1Q 2021 so I will contact them again around the end of March if nothing pops out before then.

I bought my AP200 and started playing with it and saw an option for adding keys to the IMMO. Has anyone programed new keyfobs for the Clarity using the AP200? Any thoughts?

I only got one key when I bought an used 2019 Clarity PHEV.

    Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know if Blue Driver reads any of the battery capacity data?

I have the Blue Driver. I have not found anything on it that displays battery capacity. It gives most of the other data I want.
