  3. Yup, like I said, all "good talk" (virtual signalling), and sadly people (like Bob here) swallow it, hook line and sinker. Trump, ironically, actually helped the US out-achieve other countries with lower emissions, by promoting fracking, which lowered the price of NG and more use by power plants.

Owning the climate change deniers, the Paris Accord drives them nuts. This works for me.

FYI, I own two EVs not for climate change but for low operational cost. For example, my 2019 Std Rng Plus Model 3 cost $2.75 to drive 100 miles around town ... not counting free charging. Yet I beat traffic across any intersection and reach the speed limit 100-200 yards ahead of the pack. Then I get to smile as they exceed the local speed limit to catch up while I already have lane choice.

My understanding is the Paris Accord:

The Paris Agreement's long-term temperature goal is to keep the rise in global average temperature to well below 2 °C (3.6 °F) above pre-industrial levels; and to pursue efforts to limit the increase to 1.5 °C (2.7 °F), recognizing that this would substantially reduce the risks and impacts of climate change. This should be done by reducing emissions as soon as possible, in order to "achieve a balance between anthropogenic emissions by sources and removals by sinks of greenhouse gases" in the second half of the 21st century.[3] It also aims to increase the ability of parties to adapt to the adverse impacts of climate change, and make "finance flows consistent with a pathway towards low greenhouse gas emissions and climate-resilient development."

Since it drives the right-wing, climate deniers nuts, it more than pays for the effort.

  5. First, I am not a Climate Change denier, it's been changing for thousands, and many millions actually, of years. So that is not in dispute. But I also don't label myself as right wing, although most certainly I am not a left winger. I would probably describe myself more as fiscally conservative and socially liberal. I also have a strong libertarian streak, and greatly enjoy my freedoms, and don't like being told how to think, esp by hypocrites (most of the media and politicians).

And I am a huge supporter of EVs as demonstrated by my ownership and support of the adoption of EVs. I, too, greatly appreciate clean air and the quietness of electric vehicles. I do like power (not too much that would compromise efficiency), and my Kona has enough that I can beat most ICE cars at a red light. I would rather have a smelly, noisy sports car or truck behind me.

The Green New Deal and all it promises, however, is a huge hoax on our society. And I am always amazed how many people seemingly fall for it, and actually believe it to be the single most existential issue of our times. It has some good points, but is just not realistic with its premises and how it must be implemented, esp considering the proposed actions in the next 10 years. Or should I say non-actions. Here is a good read, long, but very interesting in how it looks at the Green New Deal. Bob, if you really like data, lots of it here to ponder over.

Regardless, man-made, global warming exists but that is not why I’m here. Facts and data about EVSEs followed by accurate EV information drives my curiosity.

It is disappointing when political hacks try to high jack what should be a technical forum. But like most bullies, they are shocked when someone stands up to their propaganda. But that is too common in today’s Internet.

So I am reporting myself to the moderator suggesting a reminder post of forum rules and freezing the thread. Talk technical with hands on experience and we may disagree but it won’t be disagreeable on my part.

Are you sure you are replying to the correct thread?

My posts were not anti-environmental. If you want actual results there are very effective ways of doing it. The Paris accord is not one.

I’m content to await moderator judgement EVEN if different from mine. Just understand the credibility of a poster is the cumulative of their posts.

Talk technical, we’re on the same page. Anything else is negotiable.

Seems like a cancel culture attempt to me, but hey that's expected these days.

You did have the option to not join the conversation. I use this option several dozen times a day. It works.

Jesus did. I refer you to the New Testament. The Koran is another source. Your soul is at risk. Reform before it is too late.

  16. Wow, talk about the pot calling the kettle black!! You, Bob, have started more political threads on this forum than anyone else,... by far.

And not to mention the many interventions when others are trying to have an intelligent discussion that you don't agree with. I don't think your name calling and attacks on others is what this forum is about.

Please, if you don't like a discussion, or aren't willing to participate in a civil manner and argue the content instead of resorting to attacks, go somewhere else where you might be appreciated.

Your posts are the ones that need to be moderated out of this thread. You have no rebuttal, no logical thought pattern and nothing to contribute. Just skip stuff you don't agree with.

This just in, "Pot calls kettle black."

You start the thread without citing the source from a political speech. With some goading, we eventually got a creditable source and the original from which an excerpt was posted. Upon further review, the source reveals exactly what Joe Biden said including the omitted words, "Look, the climate crisis is not our fight alone; it’s a global fight. ..."

We know right-wing nuts hate the UN or any multilateral efforts to mitigate man-made global warming or even the COVID-19 pandemic. It is why we have President Joe Biden instead of the lying orange one ... good riddance that Trump is gone.

Personally, I think right-wingers have no allegiance to facts and data. Their one-trick pony is to misquote by omission. Sorry, that dog don't hunt. Rather, I would prefer you' all study the teachings of Jesus and reform ... but I'm not holding my breath.

  19. Hi, all. I tend to keep a hands-off approach to threads in off-topic. Please be nice(r) to each other, though. Besides insults, please try not to "bait" other members.

Speaking to the topic at hand, climate-change and policies surrounding it are pretty complicated and are generally over-simplified when discussed in public forums. A lot of the discussion is highly-politicized. Even when on the surface it doesn't seem to be so, the facts and figures presented may be put together by organizations with strong political interests.

Personally, I strongly disagree with many, if not most, of the statements made regarding climate and policy in this thread. Unfortunately, I don't have time to engage, and even if I did, people have a way of not giving opposing arguments the same weight as those which support their own opinions, so I doubt minds would be changed. And, there are lots of places on the internet to discuss man-made climate change and the role of policy in lessening its effects.

It's unfortunate people have attempted to label me a certain way.

My only goal was to clarify previous claims that the US is behind the rest of the world in emissions. This is grossly false and backed up by the current administration.

My secondary point was was implementing change to actually influence global emissions. The Paris accord does not achieve this, tariffs or other offensive tactics could.

But my thread was derailed with incoherent religious psychobabble that I was unable to decipher.

I want a clean planet as much as anyone, I'm just not willing to crash the economy or pass massive debt onto the next generation.

Some may label my vehicle ownership as environmentally unfriendly, but I know my OVERALL carbon footprint is well below the Nancy Pelosi, Al Gore and AOC types.

  21. I believe the argument is, that if we don't make huge changes, it's going to impact us a lot harder than what we spend to fix things now. So, every dollar invested in saving our climate will pay dividends. Some argue that those dividends will actually start being repaid sooner than later as well.

I agree with bwilson4web that quotes of our president's speeches and words should be accompanied by a link to the source. All too frequently, the internet has been used to spread disinformation in the form of quotes taken out of context and/or edited "quotes". This includes not just Biden or Trump, but previous presidents and other public figures. As such, when I read a "quote" which does not have a link, I am immediately skeptical of its accuracy. This is because it is a common practice of people with an agenda who spread misinformation to force their audience to do the work of fact checking.

I agree with Domenick that "...climate-change and policies surrounding it are pretty complicated and are generally over-simplified when discussed in public forums."

Never the less, I'm going to express my take on climate change. The Pleistocene is characterized by prolonged periods of glaciation (ice ages) with brief interglacial periods of a few thousands of years. During the previous interglacial, which occurred a little over 100,000 years ago, it was warmer than today. There were hippos and elephants living in the area around London. However, there is also no denying that humans are dumping huge amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere and it is accumulating to levels that have not been present since before the Pleistocene epoch. It makes sense to me for the world to work together (Paris Accord) to moderate the rate of global warming by limiting the production of greenhouse gasses.

There is rock joke here somewhere. This post was made at the time Joe made his speech. It was on almost every news site and was viral on social media. I should have included a link but I don't se how anyone missed this quote. Or why people did not watch the first address of the nation.
