Polestar 2 pricing. Deal breaker?

  1. The Polestar 2 price officially starts at $59,900. That is about $3,000 less than the $63K that was originally hinted at.

Besides that price, we also have numbers for a few options:
    • Performance Pack: $5,000
    • Nappa Leather Interior: $4,000
    • 20-Inch Alloy Wheels: $1,200
    • Metallic Paint Colors: $1,200
In some parts of the U.S., this means some can score the basic car at around $50,000. To me, someone to whom that is way out of my budget, it seems high. On the other hand, I've had the opportunity to ride around in a number of recent Volvo vehicles as well as some electrics from other brands and can see why someone would stretch to get the Polestar over, say, a Tesla Model 3 (which I think is probably its closest competitor, at least in the electric world).

What do you think? Does this price clinch the deal for you or were you hoping for something even lower? Also, $4K for leather...I think I'd stick with the vegan material.

  3. Here's the official press release, by the way:

“We are quite enthusiastic to announce the U.S. pricing for the Polestar 2,” said Gregor Hembrough, Head of Polestar USA. “The MSRP is lower than we originally targeted, and will be extended to all of our current reservation holders. “With an online purchase option, lower pricing, considerable tax incentives, and production already underway, the Polestar 2 is well positioned for a successful entry into the U.S. market.”

Polestar also announces option pricing for the Polestar 2 as follows:

    • Performance Pack: $5,000
    • Nappa Leather Interior: $4,000
    • 20-Inch Alloy Wheels: $1,200
    • Metallic Paint Colors: $1,200

The Polestar 2 arrives with 408 hp, 487 lb.-ft. of torque, all-wheel drive and a 78 kWh battery pack, which enables considerable EV range. It is also the first car in the world to feature a built-in infotainment system powered by Android, featuring voice command via the Google Assistant, Google Maps with EV charging support and app downloads via the Google Play Store.

The Polestar 2, which began production in late March, will begin delivery to U.S. reservation holders in summer 2020. With a digital retail model, the Polestar 2 is available to purchase on Polestar.com. To supplement this, the brand will soon open physical retail showrooms—Polestar Spaces—where non-commissioned Polestar Specialists will be able to assist customers with product information and test drives. The first of these locations will open on the West Coast of the United States and New York in late summer 2020, with additional locations to follow.

The Polestar 2 is available for sale in all 50 states and Polestar will announce lease and retail finance options for the vehicle in the near future.

Hopefully this forum picks up in activity. I have a deposit down on a Polestar 2. Looks to be a really nice car with tons of standard features.

  5. Did you get any kind of number related to your deposit? I'm wondering if we can figure out approximately how many pre-orders they have.

It’s definitely on my list to check out in person. The pricing is in line with Volvo build quality and premium segment.

Also, this is pricing for the launch edition and includes their advanced driving assist features. Should see lower priced trims at a later date.

Seems like the original configuration is cheaper now than it was on release. Getting Plus + Pilot package gives a price tag of $58,400 (including a $1300 destination charge). Also - comes with a bit more range than it had in 2021.
