@Crash Do you have a howto someplace on how to update through the USB port instead of slipping the new flash card into the system?

I have done it once or twice. In general, you just have to download the update and place it on the USB stick.

 

Exactly, I initially bought it on the 32 GB SD card so I have a couple of extra ones that I download the update to and insert into the car for the update.

The update software is pretty easy to use and you can just log in as guest. Just follow the same instructions as when you buy it on the SD card.

 

If you haven't run the Kia Navigation software updater recently (I sure haven't!), here's some news:
There's a new version of the maps and software dated April 28, 2022.
It claims to have better support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the ability to choose a dark Nav background as default, and some improvement in communication via the Kia Access (UVO) App.

 

Looks like the latest nav update requires a usb drive larger than 32GB. Is this right or am I doing something wrong?

 

Yes, the installer software says the Data Size is 31GB, with required hard disk space of 52GB. That means you need at least 52GB on your C: drive, because of temporary files. But when you get to the step that formats and copies files to your USB drive, you'll only need 31.7GB. I used a 64GB USB drive, but you should be OK with a 32GB USB drive.

 

Thanks for your reply. I tried a 32gb thumb drive and the installer software said "insufficient storage space on portable device". Also said the data size was 35GB, and the required hard drive space is 59gb. I've got a 2020 niro ev premium (with the wide screen), and my computer is 64 bit windows 10. So something is different in my setup. I'm going to BestBuy shortly to buy a 64gb drive; about $10 for USB 3.0.

 

It looks like there is an "audio update" which is separate from the maps update. Do I need to do both updates? Does the audio update allow for wireless Apple carplay on a 2019 Niro EV?

Has anyone done this?

Wireless car play is a hardware upgrade, new head unit not a software upgrade.

Hi Kevin. I have a 2022 Niro in Whitehorse and want to be able to do my own updates (the dealer insists that this isn't possible). I downloaded the most recent update file but note that the file title includes 'US'. Did you use such a file on a Canadian vehicle?

Having been assured by Hyandai AutoEver (?) that the update file was correct for my 2022 Kia Niro EV, I loaded the files onto a 64 GB USB memory key. My car told me there were 'No supported files'. Noting that the key was formatted exFAT, I reformatted to Large FAT32 thinking that may be the problem. Same result in the car. What is the meaning of 'No supported files'?

 

My guess is that the system doesn't like the formatting. This one worked out of the box via Amazon:

Thanks CR EV for your suggestion. A couple of followups - I don't think my Niro has a socket for memory cards - only USB key and this update requires 50 GB of space so would have to be larger. Still, you may be right that I bought a cheap 64GB key. Perhaps I will try with a better quality one.

 

My 2019 uses an SD card. Have you checked the manual...asking just in case...
