So my MINI, at its 4th year anniversary, has told me that a State Vehicle Inspection is required, along with the 2nd brake fluid exchange. I'm trying to research what this could possibly be, and the only explanation I can come up with is that this is the Smog Check Vehicle inspection alert that normally only shows up for the gas vehicles and maybe they forgot to remove it from the electric versions. Does anyone else know what this could be about? I'm in California.
Makes no sense to me. Even gas cars newer than eight years do not need smog check, so even a mixup with gas cars would not explain it. I’m in CA also, interested in what you find out.
Seems it's more than smog check: https://www.capovw.com/blog/everything-you-need-to-know-about-california-state-inspections/ Could be a quick one for the SE however.
Strange. I've lived in CA since 1990, and other than the smog inspection---have never had a safety inspection of tires, brakes, leaks..... Update---inspections required for some cars, such as registering a car with a salvage title and commercial vehicles: https://oraclelawfirm.com/california-vehicle-safety-inspection-requirements/
The "state inspection required" notification is just a time-based feature in the car. For an example, I live in Washington State which does not have any state inspections. I still have this interval reminder in the system (I think it was set at four years). The below link implies that the dealer is supposed to set this but I would hazard a guess that they don't really do that: https://dealers.miniusa.com/content/dam/mini/PDF/warranties/2023_MINI_Maintenance.pdf
My SE needs an annual safety inspection here in NC. The smog check only goes as far as checking that it does not have a gas engine. Other states no doubt vary.
