  1. Look at other threads on this topic. The $900 is floating around this forum by folks who already paid it. Yes, I had my HV battery replaced a couple of months after I took delivery of the car (@3,400km) in 2020. Got the car back in mid February 2021. The recommended coolant change is 36mo/or 60,00km. My ODO reads 43,400km. So according to my calculations I am doing OK distance wise in 2023. Not sure about the 36 months. :( This could be critical to maintain the HV battery warranty!

Whenever time or distance is stipulated, it’s always the shorter of the two.

That’s not a popular stance, but Hyundai “might” void the warranty if something does happen down the road and someone tries to say “well it wasn’t up to 60k yet”.

    As always, YMMV…

  4. I fully agree.

  5. After these last posts I dug around the Hyundai website trying to find "coolant" changes under the scheduled maintenance tab and in my online owner's manual. I didn't see anything about coolant changes at 60k. I saw something about it in the owner's manual at 120k but that only suggested inspection. Can anybody open my eyes, point me in a different direction?

  6. I suspect you might have the green coolant (or pink) and not be affected by what is being discussed.

  8. Oh! I knew of the different coolant colours but hadn't realized that the change intervals for each were (potentially) different.

Discussion: The car was brought into the dealership for a recall (21D184 EV EPCU Leak inspection). The blue coolant level in the coolant recovery bottle is now at the "max" line, versus midway between "max and "min" (which it had been at since day one of ownership).

While they had the car, they wanted to upsell me on "brake service" for $345 plus 13% HST. I kindly informed the service manager to have his mechanic note the purple (synthetic ceramic) brake caliper lubricant being used by me when I do the yearly brake caliper service versus what the OEM stuff was.

They also wanted to upsell me a four wheel alignment for $159.95 plus 13% HST. I kindly informed the service manager that when I swap out the tires (winter/all-seasons) twice a year, I check the tread depth of each tire, along the whole width of each tire, and I haven't seen any unusual wear patterns.

Discussion: While I was doing the annual/routine brake caliper lubrication service, I inadvertently turned on the e-parking brake while the rear left (drivers/port side) brake caliper was still dis-assembled. The brake piston hyper-extended to it's maximum amount that was mechanically available. Use of the parking brake control would not reverse the extended piston, so I had to mechanically (screw back in) reset the piston and button up the caliper assembly. Any brake warning lamps that exists lit up on the instrument panel.

I had to take the car to the dealership. The first visit was to simply reset the error codes. The second visit was to instruct the dealership to remove and replace the brake fluid (which is called for in the owners manual every 48 months) to eliminate a trapped air sound emanating from the e-booster/master cylinder anytime the service brake pedal was applied.

Discussion: IAW Ontario law, our landlord has given us the requisite 90 days notice for the once every 12 months rental increase. The rent-controlled dictated 2.5% increase, effective 01 Aug 2023, includes "basic rent for (the) rental unit, plus ANY amount (we) pay separately to (our) landlord for services".

One of the services "we separately pay for" is $15.00 a month for unlimited hydro per EV parking spot.

Therefore, effective 01 Aug 2023, our monthly energy costs for home charging each of our EVs will increase to $15.38.

  13. Wow, you are getting off pretty cheap given the rate of inflation. And very cheap charging rate for your EV. My home ownership costs, incl taxes have gone up way more than that. Your landlord is really getting short changed.

The V1.0 blue coolant we bought last year (for $400) in anticipation of the 36 month coolant change, was disposed of this week when the car was brought in to have Hyundai pay (via warranty) for the coolant change to V2.0 blue coolant.

  18. It is kind of a shame the BSC-1 coolant TSB snuck up on you after the BSC-1 purchase because it would have been a great deal lowering the replacement cost, but on the other hand, it does save you the labor having the replacement done at no cost in warranty.
I hope the replacement went well and good for another 3 years (pending there is no BSC-2 TSB between now and then)
If there is...please let it be a couple of months before the next replacement is due the same as this one and at a similar cost.
BTW, my mileage (19,716 km) now exceeds your wife's Kona EV, it only took me ~ 3 years:)

So far there has been no post fluid swap drama; let’s hope it stays that way.

You are really packing on those kms now :D

  20. Not a big Island, a road trip for me is like 150km.
With fires popping up these last few years, I am a little nervous about getting stranded as most remote locations only have one route in and out, including my favorite one to the west side Tofino which I usually take at least 2 times per year. The only paved highway has been facing daily closures and long lineups. The tourist industry has been taking a huge hit, including some businesses that unfortunately have been forced to close.
    Trying times.
Not even close to what it used to be.:(
