I have successfully updated the map in my CRV using a Mac. The procedure is the same for the Clarity. There is a version of the Garmin utility that runs happily on a Mac. My current issue is that the car refuses to write the magic file to the USB stick I'm trying to use. It wrote it to a different USB stick, but I realized when I went to the next step to download the map from Garmin that the stick I had was too small. So I found another one, but even though it is formatted as FAT, I think that there's some kind of partition information on it that the car cannot recognize. I need to be sure that the stick is completely kosher Microsoft FAT.
I noticed some difference after updating the map. The text at the top that shows what street or off ramp is coming up is smaller but it also includes more information. Example: old map was "EXIT 123 COMING UP" new map: "EXIT 123 Gene Autry Trail to Palm Springs Airport coming up" The voice traffic warnings/directions are also spoken more frequently. "Construction on the I-10 freeway" Problem is...she repeats this every :15 to :30 secs. Sheesh! Really annoying. Almost as annoying as my ex-wife. I have to mute the directions.
