Hello everyone, I need help with my car, The Ac and heater don't work,. Back in the summer my car Ac wasn't working so I bought the Ac kit from Canadian Tire to refill it, and it worked without a problem so every time that there was no cold air I refilled it again. Now that the weather is changing and I tried the heater I noticed that it wasn't working so I took it to the dealer and they told me that that they couldn't diagnose the car because the freon has to be extracted and since I bought the kit from Canadian Tire they would have to do it. I asked did they could do it but they say no, is there a different between an electric car and a gas car on regards to the Ac system? Why can the dealer fix this problem? I don't know where to go, I called Canadian Tire and they told me that they will have to check it. Can someone please tell me if my problem has a solution because I even asked the dealer if they could anything about and they say NO.. how hard is to fix this problem? Please help
Can you take your Kona to a different dealer and be careful not to tell them about refilling the leaky heat-pump system yourself?
Adding freon is almost never the correct answer. One would think any competent AC tech could evac the system. The dealer is just avoiding working on your car
Adding FREON??? Want to destroy your car? The Kona electric uses R-1234yf like all modern cars. Freon is old R22 and banned. Well there are many isues with AC / heat not working on many cars. The rubberseals can dry out and get leak. The evaporator/condenser get leak. A friend wanted to buy a 2 year old KONA and the AC did not work. My Kona 2019 worked fine until 2-3 mnd before garanti (5 years) went out. So they fixed /changed all gasgets / seals ... at least they said and refilled the gas. Work again ..... until warrenty went out. Then they claim the compressor and evaporator (behind dashbord) was leak! It cost med 44000NOK / about $4000 !!! Hell of work because they have to take out the dashbord it took over a days work. Now I don't trust my car ..... fell the AC/heat is bad again just 3 months later. If you have a kona with heatpump it has much to say that the AC is working, as it is used for both AC and heat For me I beginn thinking if a heatpump is great so great in a car if they broke after 2-5 years. The electric heat isn't cheap either but I hope its not $4000 ...... My dealer has equipment for taking out the gas and messaure how many gram there is in the system before pushing back the gas. I wonder if the cheap 40KWH Kona only has PTC-heater, while the 64KWH has both - at least in europe. "Can you take your Kona to a different dealer and be careful not to tell them about refilling the leaky heat-pump system yourself?" Yeah, don't tell them you refilling it yourselv ..... unfortunally I guess your warranty has run out too.
